Hope Spring Latest Clean Water Project to Serve Eighty Household.

Hereford, UK – July, 2026: Herefordshire water poverty alleviation charity, Hope Spring, has started a new clean water project at the village of Angwan Kyauta in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The project which is expected to take eight weeks will bring safe, clean drinking water to about eighty households in the northern Nigerian village.

The project is developed in collaboration with the local community, and fully funded from donations generated through Hope Spring websites including especially funds from its Online Charity Christmas cards which tends to be the charity’s best performing fundraiser.

The planned borehole is expected to provide Angwan Kyauta residents with a more reliable and accessible source of drinking water. Once completed, it will reduce the time and physical effort required to collect water while limiting residents’ dependence on unsafe surface water and other potentially contaminated sources.

“This project is not simply about drilling a borehole; it is about delivering a dependable water facility that the community can use and maintain for years to come.” Bolu Olorunfemi, the Project Manager said.

Construction is expected to begin shortly, the work will include site preparation, Geo Survey, drilling, installation of the necessary water infrastructure, testing and arrangements for the eventual handover of the facility to the community.

“This planned project demonstrates what can be achieved when donors, local leaders and community members work towards a shared goal,” said Lolade Aderibigbe, a spokesperson for Hope Spring Water. “Once completed, the borehole will provide families with more than relief from thirst.”

Community participation is being incorporated into the planning and proposed implementation of the borehole. At a point when language was a barrier, one of the volunteers and project coordinator Mr Peter Hamidu helped with the interpretation for easy communication.

“Our priority is to ensure that every stage of the borehole project is carefully coordinated with the needs of the Angwan Kyauta community,” said Peter Hamidu, the Project Coordinator. Over the expected eight-week delivery period, we will work closely with local representatives, technical teams and other stakeholders to keep the project progressing safely and efficiently.”

The public-health importance of the proposed project is well established. The World Health Organization states that contaminated drinking water can transmit diseases including cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and polio. WHO also identifies safe water, sanitation and hygiene as essential foundations for health, livelihoods, school attendance, dignity and resilient communities.

Although the Angwan Kyauta borehole is still awaiting completion, many rural communities across Nigeria continue to lack convenient access to safe and dependable drinking water.
