Hope Spring announces first clean water project in 2023

Herefordshire water poverty alleviation charity, Hope Spring announced the completion of their first clean water project in 2023. The announcement was posted on the NGO’s website in a blog post. The new clean water project, a borehole created in partnership with the Mano Geiha community in Sierra Leone, is expected to serve up to one hundred people.

The charity works exclusively in West Africa, helping groups and communities overlooked by the government and larger water charities. Hope Spring plans to build up to four more boreholes and wells by the second quarter of this year. In addition to their clean water projects in West Africa, the organisation works in sanitation and hygiene.

Project manager for the Mano Geiha community project in Sierra Leone Mr Benson Kandeh said “the newly completed borehole project is a significant gift to the community, “prior to the completion of the project, the community had to walk a significant distance to collect water from a river”. Mr Kandeh added “The water from the river is of doubtful purity, it makes people sick. The problems are now a thing of the past”,

Reacting to Mano Geiha borehole project, Hope Spring trustee and founder Temi Odurinde said “I am delighted that we are achieving our aim of helping more communities to access clean, safe drinking water. We have three more ongoing projects in Sierra Leone at the present time, with more planned for later this year”. He added “despite the cost of living crisis, we are all experiencing, we thank users of our charity eCards platform, particularly those who have been sending Mother’s Day eCards for donations that help us to continue our water poverty alleviation projects”.

Apart from Hope Spring’s work in Sierra Leone, they are currently working on a number of borehole projects in south west Nigeria, as well as menstrual hygiene projects in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja.
