Good Energy Launches Local Tariff
News provided by Pressat Wire on Wednesday 30th Apr 2014
100% renewable electricity supplier, Good Energy, is launching a local electricity tariff near to the new Hampole wind farm. Good Energy is writing to eligible residents living near Hooton Pagnell, Brodsworth, Pickburn, Hampole, Moorhouse and Skelbrooke to offer them its Hampole Local tariff, which is at least 20% cheaper than the company's standard electricity prices. The tariff could save an average Good Energy customer in the area over £100 annually.
Local Scout Leader Paul Peakman, who lives in Hampole said: “The local tariff is a fantastic idea and I will be signing-up straight away to see how much it will save me.
You don't need a great big power station to generate electricity, there are better alternatives. Hampole wind farm shows this. I'm proud that our community is home to it and that we're doing our bit.
Our Scout group has been on a tour of the site and we think the turbines are awe-inspiring. I'd rather see them than ugly pylons; I think they're as attractive as the old windmills of the past.”
Good Energy's new four turbine wind farm at Hampole has a total capacity of 8.2MW and is expected to generate around 20,000MWh a year. That's enough electricity to power 4,000-5,000 average homes.
Juliet Davenport OBE, CEO of Good Energy, said: “I'm very happy to be opening the Hampole Local tariff. Good Energy wants to see communities who live near our wind farms share in their success. We were the first to reward customers with a bespoke local tariff linked to wind farm performance.”
“This is a socially progressive tariff offered to eligible residents. It is part of our ongoing commitment to our neighbours and is above and beyond what we are required to contribute. We think that it's right that our local communities should be recognised for their contribution to tackling climate change and reducing the UK's reliance on increasingly imported fossil fuels.”
Good Energy is also offering other benefits in the area including a community fund worth £8,200 a year for the lifetime of the wind farm to support local charitable causes. The company has held a number of community meetings over the past year which have been well attended.
Good Energy will be holding a special event on 3 May between 12pm – 4pm at The Pickburn Arms, Pickburn DN5 7UZ to provide information and support for people interested in signing up. Eligible residents can also sign up online at www.goodenergy.co.uk/hampole-local-tariff or over the phone on 08454561640. The tariff is open for applications until 31 May.
