Get Your Skates on for Cleethorpes Roller Disco
The roller disco event will allow us to reach out to young people who are interested in developing events, as well as health and fitness in their area
A LOCAL youth partnership is urging young people to get their skates on for a mammoth free roller disco session at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre on Sunday 28 February.
Youth Partnership – North East Lincs is a group of local organisations that are focused on the needs of young people in the borough.
And they are inviting youngsters aged between 8-19-years of ages to the Cleethorpes venue for an afternoon of roller disco fun, skating along to the latest chart-toppers.
Jenny Hodson, Apprentice Community Development Worker Manager for Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire (VANEL) is one of the event organisers and she is looking forward to an afternoon that youngsters will enjoy.
She said: “We have spoken to young people all over North East Lincolnshire about what sort of events they would like to see in their local area and this roller disco gives them the opportunity to see exactly what is available to them.
“We have a 150-person capacity, so it should prove to be a really fun afternoon.”
And Jenny is hoping to see the event lead to wider youth participation in North East Lincolnshire through Get Set for Community Action – a UK-wide programme designed to help 14-19-year-olds improve the health of their communities.
YMCA Humber is one of 15 YMCAs nationally that have signed up to the partnership and the aim is to see young people leading on similar sporting activities, in the lead-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Jenny continued: “The aim is to get young people positively contributing to their neighbourhoods.
“The roller disco event will allow us to reach out to young people who are interested in developing events, as well as health and fitness in their area.
“We hope that the Get Set for Community Action programme will enable us to put on further events in North East Lincolnshire during the summer months.”
Entrance to the roller disco on Sunday 28 February at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre is free and booking is essential. These can be made online by visiting this link.
Skates are available in a range of sizes or you are welcome to wear your own, although organisers will not allow skateboards, heelies and scooters.
