#FREEDOMTO…KNOW
With London Pride reaching its climax this weekend, sexual health experts are calling on everyone celebrating to remember that they have the #FREEDOM TO KNOW about their own sexual health.
Statistics released last week from Public Health England, firmly point to London as the nation’s STI capital, with the highest infection rate of any English region. Of every 100,000 Londoners 1,300 STIs were diagnosed – including acute rates of gonorrhoea and syphilis. The figures also show that men who have sex with men, are disproportionately affected by STI transmission accounting for 81% of syphilis (2,393) and 63% of gonorrhoea (13,570) cases in males who attended GUM clinics. There was a 26% rise in gonorrhoea diagnoses in this group from last year– nearly double the national rate. Caroline Fleck, Health Advisor at Confidante (Home STI test kit) says it is concerning:
“Gonorrohea is a particularly nasty STI; it can be very painful and if left untreated can cause long term health problems including infertility. We really need to use Pride to challenge transmission. Why not start the weekend by utilising your #FreedomTo know by taking a sexual health test! That way you will either have peace of mind, or you can start treatment to get back to your best!”
If you have any concerns about your sexual health Confidante can help - it is the only home test kit to detect 10 of the most common STIs from just one sample.
Confidante is proud to support London Pride and wishes everyone a terrific weekend!
