Food Nation Recognised By Royal Society Of Public Health For National Achievements
News provided by Rocket Pop PR on Wednesday 4th Dec 2013
Food Nation -a Newcastle based social enterprise- has been chosen as one of only 12 UK organisations to be recognised by the Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) in the 2013 Health and Wellbeing Awards.
The award celebrates Food Nation’s national achievements in the development and delivery of a range of health promotion initiatives and community wellbeing strategies, and means that Food Nation will receive support from the RSPH for the next three years.
Food Nation’s innovative team has developed a wide range of progressive food programmes, and delivers them as community cookery courses, community events and school-based cook and grow projects. The team also coordinates partnerships such as Change 4 Life East Newcastle.
Working collaboratively with other like-minded organisations, Newcastle City Council and representatives from the commercial food world, Food Nation is also leading the way in local food policy and strategy for the city of Newcastle.
The RSPH said: “The award for Food Nation is for three years and is related to its commitment to Health Improvement by embedding contemporary Public Health strategies into its work, and for its contribution to corporate and social responsibility.
“Food Nation is an empowering, creative and joined up initiative which has established a commitment to the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities in Newcastle. Its community engagement strategy is to be commended for its innovation and authenticity.”
Chief Executive of RSPH Shirley Cramer CBE said: “I would like to congratulate our 2013 Health & Wellbeing Awards winners for their achievements in improving the health of their communities. Their strong commitment to Public Health deserves commendation. The RSPH is proud to be supporting and encouraging good practice in health improvement through the national Health & Wellbeing Awards scheme. Our assessment process has been extremely rigorous and this accolade denotes that our winners are at the forefront of good health promotion practice.”
On receiving the award, Food Nation’s Managing Director, Jamie Sadler said: “We are honoured to have been given three years of endorsement from the Royal Society for Public Health through this award.
“It is fantastic to have a high profile organisation such as the RSPH recognise the good work that our team are delivering every day, and we will continue to develop new and exciting ways to connect our communities to the great food we have available here in the North East. Working alongside the RSPH will only bolster our offering and we’re really looking forward to learning, sharing and working with their team.”
