Enormous Battersea Canary Dog finds home – with dog even bigger than her

News provided by Pressat Wire on Monday 1st Dec 2014

An enormous Canary Dog called Tula spent a mammoth 273 days at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home's Brands Hatch site after her owner decided she couldn't look after her anymore. Despite her size, four-year-old Tula was a happy-go-lucky and playful dog, fast becoming a staff favourite due to her cuddly personality.

Kennel staff worried that Tula might never find a home because of her size – until Anna Scott came to meet her, bringing her gargantuan Italian Mastiff Digger.

Anna said: "Tula thought she was a big dog until she met Digger. They get on so well and have settled beautifully together. Digger is ten now so he's a bit clumsy with his paws, and if Tula's around and gets accidentally clobbered, she just accepts it – she knows there's no malice, he's just a clumsy oaf. Big dogs are underrated and misrepresented. They are loyal, cuddly and tremendous fun."

Michelle Bevan, Rehoming and Welfare Manager at Battersea Brands Hatch, said: "Bigger dogs can be difficult to rehome as they need a lot of space and can be strong on the lead. But as Anna, Digger and Tula have shown, there is a space for every single dog in a loving home somewhere."

If you would like to rehome a dog or a cat from Battersea Brands Hatch, you can call 0843 509 4444 or visit www.battersea.org.uk.
