Student news website Young Academic was one of the sites quickest off the mark when reporting this weeks remarkable Twitter incident. The portal has been establishing itself as one of the United Kingdom s premier sources of education news and advice over the last few years and was swift in its publication of the #savetheintern story.

The debacle ensued following a serious mistale by an MPs intern. Tom Watsons young staff member tweeted on his behalf and caused rather a stir.

This sparked a hashtag campaign that is still raging on as you read this press release and is designed to save the intern from the sack. Unfortunately for the intern in question, as is common in the twittersphere, the original tweet had already been retweeted over a hundred times making it visible to thousands of potential readers.

Tom Watson then became aware of the situation and sent the following message; I sincerely apologise for the recent tweet. A lesson learned for a young intern. Shes also very sorry. I will deal with the matter offline.
