Cricket World Cup for Street Children

News provided by Our Sansar on Wednesday 4th Mar 2015

Our Sansar is delighted to announce a first ever in Nepal T20 Cricket Tournament for Street Children to celebrate the International Day for Street Children on the 12th of April. Teams from 18 children's homes in the Hetauda and Chitwan regions will compete. This is a great opportunity for these children to be part of a team and to compete with their peers. With the support of the National Cricket Association we want to make this day to remember.

We're very excited to announce that our event ambassador is Mr Shakti Gauchan, a player on the national cricket team. He will help us to make this tournament very special for the children.

We would like as many local companies, schools, groups, organisations to join us in the celebrations of the day so please do get in touch.

All proceeds will go towards supporting our children's home in Birgunj, which provides vital shelter and education to vulnerable street children.

We currently have 19 boys in permanent residence and in an education program at our home in Birgunj. Living on the street has meant that these young boys have been unable to attend school, eat regular meals or make solid and lasting relationships. These boys are building new lives and with your help we can give them more than simply a roof over their heads. We can give these boys an opportunity to learn team spirit, sportsmanship and character and with your help a chance at a bright future.

These boys are working to create a better future. This is an opportunity for them to experience an event that for most other kids is a normal part of growing up. The teams will compete, and regardless of the outcome, each child will have been part of a team, and part of this wonderful event. Nepal's own star all rounder, Shakti Gauchan is our event ambassador making this a very special occasion. You can help us make this tournament a reality for these children.
