Congratulations to the Lionesses on an amazing World Cup

Despite the result today, we'd like to say a huge congratulations from everyone at the Youth Sport Trust to the Lionesses for their incredible achievement in reaching the World Cup Final.

Despite the heartache of losing at the final stage, the Lionesses continue to inspire a generation, and encourage more women and girls than ever before to take up football.

Throughout the tournament we have seen the immense power of sport to unite, to inspire and to create hope and raise aspirations. The Lionesses have players who reflect the very best character traits and values and led by the incredible Sarina Wiegman, we have been reminded of the power of teamwork, creating a squad of players united in a common goal.

Through their actions on and off the field, the Lionesses have helped to drive change in participation in sport for young women and girls, by changing attitudes, building opportunities and pathways.
