On April 29^th 2017, Malawian Daliso Chaponda received a golden buzzer and was broadcast to millions of viewers.

On April 29^th 2020, Daliso Chaponda performed in his kitchen, to an empty flat. The performance was streamed to Twitch, Facebook and YouTube in the CORONACAST COMEDY SHOW

Like many other entertainers, the pause in public gatherings has forced Daliso to  adapt.  His BLAHBLAHBLACKLIST TOUR ended prematurely.  Every since, Daliso spends 4 hours daily writing a new show in a self imposed comedic marathon. Every evening at 9pm he performs it; streaming from kitchen or living room.

April 29^th was day 40 of the Coronacast Comedy Show.  The jokes are often on themes related to Covid. There has been an episode on 'Home education', an episode on 'dealing with loneliness', an episode on 'The end of the world'. On other days the show is an escape, so is about something whimsical like gates.  On other episodes Daliso does bespoke humour about whatever topics his audience asks for.

Daliso Chaponda lives alone and at first he was doing the show to keep busy. Back then, 40 days ago, he naiively imagined it would go on for two or three weeks. As the disruption to regular life has continued, he has had to face the reality that even when measures soften, live entertainment may not resume as normal.  The Coronacast has shifted into a way of keeping sane.  

So what if it doesn't currently pay and has an average viewership of only 2000.  Writing a daily show is a purpose and Daliso's few regular fans say it helps to have a moment of laughter. 

Daliso has appeared at many festivals that have included the Melbourne, Edinburgh, Singapore and Cape Town Festivals. Performing to a webcam every day is harder. Never in his life has he written so many jokes.  With trump’s daily briefings, cyclists in the park, people defying lockdowns around the world and so many more subjects, he suspects he won't run out of material.  

The coronacast will continue. Broadcasting EVERY NIGHT AT 9pm BST until Live Comedy is resurrected.
