Cockroft & Cox Nominated For BT Sport Action Woman Award
Paralympic gold medallists Hannah Cockroft (coach: Jenni Banks) and Kadeena Cox (Brian Scobie) have both been nominated by BT Sport for its annual Action Woman of the Year Award.
The Award, now in its fourth year, celebrates the ten most exceptional sporting performances by British female athletes throughout 2016.
Cockroft won three Paralympic golds in Rio, winning the T34 100m, 400m and 800m titles on the track. After putting her name in the history books with double gold at the London Games four years ago, much was expected from the Yorkshire woman in 2016 and she delivered in supreme style. She blew away the competition to take her tally to five Paralympic gold medals in her career.
Cox made history as she became the first British Paralympian in 32 years to win gold medals in two different sports at the same Games. She enjoyed a memorable week at the Estadio Olimpico athletics track, winning the T38 400m on one of the hottest days of the Games. This golden moment followed bronze in the 100m and silver in the T35-38 4x100m relay. Alongside these athletics achievements she also grabbed cycling gold in the C4-5 time trial, a day after winning bronze over 100m.
A shortlist of nominees has been selected based on their sporting achievements in 2016. The winner of the Action Woman of the Year Award will be decided by a public vote. Voting can made viaBTSport.com/ActionWoman2016and via Twitter and Facebook using the designated #AW16 hashtags for each athlete.
The winners will be announced at The Action Woman of the Year Awards Show, presented by Clare Balding on BT Sport on Monday 12 December2016.
