Clean water system fit for a village completed by Hope Spring
Hereford based clean water advocacy charity, Hope Spring announced the completion of its second borehole in Sierra Leone on Wednesday the 1st of March 2023. In a blog post on the charity’s website, the organisation described Kpandabu village borehole project, as their second clean water project this year, the second in Sierra Leone.
The project was implemented for Hope Spring, by a local contractor in the area the borehole was situated. The organisation has a policy of using local human resources in the location of its project.
The borehole, which is a cross between a borehole and a water well, is deep enough to reach the source of clean ground water and shallow enough for the water to be brought to the surface with a simple hand pump. A unique hand pump that works like a bicycle pump was developed as a low cost alternative to the traditional hand pumps used in most places in Africa.
In the blog post announcing the project completion, Hope Spring trustee Temi Odurinde said “ we are very grateful to Benson Kandeh for the fantastic work he did on our behalf in Sierra Leone, our partnership with his organisation meant we are able to complete more clean water project, at the most cost effective budget in Sierra Leone. The Kpandabu project is the second one he completed for us this year” Temi added “this is a win, win, win situation, the community now have access to clean water right on their doorstep. Mr Kandeh’s team gets to do what they do best and we at Hope Spring are happy that our objectives in Sierra Leone are moving forward”.
The organisation thanked their donors and users of their charity ecard website Hope Spring ecards and their volunteers who were described as the backbone of the organisation.
Hope Spring is working on two more boreholes in Sierra Leone, and two new projects in Nigeria. You can find out more about their current and ongoing project on the clean water project page on their website and social media pages.
