CIMA Named Professional Accountancy Body of the Year

News provided by Pressat Wire on Monday 16th Feb 2015

CIMA has been awarded the Professional Body of the Year title at the 2015 PQ awards, while Dr Noel Tagoe, Executive Director of Education at CIMA, was named Industry Personality of the Year.

The PQ awards are an industry competition held annually by PQ Magazine, the UK's leading publication for accountancy students. The awards, now in their 12th year, recognise outstanding achievement in the accountancy trade.

CIMA's prize was due to the organisation's success over the past year, particularly in creating the Global Management Accounting Principles, the first global set of standards for management accounting; the launch of the revised professional qualification syllabus; and the pioneering move to computer-based assessment.

Graham Hambly, Editor of PQ Magazine, said: 'CIMA is a professional body that shows again and again that it is prepared to listen to all its stakeholders. It took the lead with its Global Management Accounting Principles and responded to the needs of both students and employers in designing the new syllabus and assessments.

'Noel Tagoe played a key role in achieving this, driving the process forward with his characteristic warmth and approachability. CIMA has demonstrated that it really is a body leading from the front.'

Andrew Harding, Managing Director of CIMA, said: 'We are thrilled to receive the Professional Body of the Year award. It recognises that CIMA is making a difference for our students and members, and leading the industry with our innovations. I would like to thank all our staff around the globe as this has only been possible with their hard work and effort.'

Dr Noel Tagoe, Executive Director of Education at CIMA: 'I am honoured to be given the Industry Personality of the Year award for overseeing CIMA's syllabus and assessment innovations and the creation of the Global Management Accounting Principles. It's a pleasure to know that my work at CIMA is making a positive impact on our students, members and the wider industry.

'My team and I are committed to building on this achievement and continuing to serve the needs of our students and members.'

In addition to winning the top awards, CIMA was also shortlisted multiple times in the Innovation in Accountancy category, taking three of the four runner-up prizes. These were awarded for:

  • CIMAconnect, CIMA's online community platform for students.
  • The Global Management Accounting Principles, the first global set of standards for management accounting created in partnership with the AICPA.
  • CIMA Apprenticeships, the first ever higher-level apprenticeships in management accounting, offering a non-university route into business and finance for talented individuals in the UK regions.
