Children’s Heart Charity Gears Up for Brindley Place Abseil on Sunday.
News provided by Little Hearts Matter on Thursday 5th Jun 2014
Birmingham-based national children’s heart charity, Little Hearts Matter, is hosting an abseil in Birmingham with a neighbouring charity this Sunday to raise funds to continue the support it provides to families when a child has only half a working heart.
Over 100 people will be abseiling down Three BrindleyPlace for Little Hearts Matter and Edward’s Trust on Sunday 8th June. Both charities will be celebrating landmark anniversaries, with Little Hearts Matter celebrating 20 years as a national charity and Edward’s Trust celebrating 25 years of serving the Birmingham community.
Little Heart’s Matter’s Chief Executive, Suzie Hutchinson, will also be abseiling and will have raised £3000 with the help of bestselling crime author and LHM’s vice president, Ruth Rendell, who promised to match Suzie’s funds if she rose over £1000. Suzie has said
“Having known many of Little Hearts Matter’s members since they started their complex journey living with only half a heart, I wanted to do something different to support them hence the challenge of a 100 foot drop, which is nothing compared to the challenges the children and their families face every day.”
While 100 thrill seekers abseil down the tower, an eclectic mix of entertainment will be keeping those on the crowd occupied throughout the day, including Birmingham’s self-proclaimed “second best Ukulele band” Mosele, Gloriana Elizabethan re-enactment, Juggling Jim, a photo booth, face painting and more.
Gwen Webb, Little Hearts Matter Fundraiser, has said
“We urge as many of you as possible to come down to what promises to be a fantastic day in support of two established Birmingham charities. With such a great mix of entertainers and fun activities set in the beautiful surroundings of BrindleyPlace there’s sure to be something for everyone this Sunday.”
The abseil will begin at 10am and run until 4pm. Both charities will be using the funds raised to continue the life-changing support they provide to children and families.

Notes to Editors
Little Hearts Matter is the only national UK charity providing support and information when a child is diagnosed as having half a working heart. During 2013, 3,500 children, young adults, parents and families were offered support by Little Herts Matter.
Single ventricle heart disease, or half a heart, is the most serious of congenital heart diseases: it is non-correctable and will eventually result in a heart transplant.
