Charity launches new support group for South Yorkshire brain tumour patients and carers
We know how important it is for patients, carers and loved ones to speak to other people who really understand.
Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) has launched a brand new support group to help families impacted by a brain tumour diagnosis across South Yorkshire.
Patients with any grade of tumour, and their carers and loved ones, are invited to come along to the meetup at Weston Park Cancer Support (Northumberland Road, Sheffield) on the third Saturday of every month, from 11am-12.30pm.
Led by a member of YBTC’s support team, the group is an informal, safe space to speak with others going through a similar experience, ask questions and share stories.
Marie Peacock, CEO of Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity, said: “Brain tumours turn lives upside down. We know how important it is for patients, carers and loved ones to speak to other people who really understand. We are delighted to be able to launch this new monthly support meetup for people affected by brain cancer across South Yorkshire, and to be offering some face-to-face support after having to transfer our services online during lockdown.”
Margaret Harrison, Head of Cancer Support Services at Weston Park Cancer Charity, commented: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming this new service to Sheffield and hosting the sessions. It’s a much-needed support service so we’d encourage new members to join in, share their experiences and use this as an opportunity to connect with other people who may be in a similar situation.”
The group welcomes anyone living across South Yorkshire or being cared for at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital or Weston Park Cancer Centre, at any stage of their journey.
