We are delighted to announce that The Massey Partnership is now working with Chapel House PZ in Penzance, which has now opened its door to guests.

Located just a stone's throw from the harbour of Penzance, Chapel House PZ is a beautiful Georgian townhouse which has been transformed into an elegant boutique hotel. Owner Susan Stuart fell in love with the property in December 2012, and set about breathing new life into the neglected building, blending Georgian style and architecture with contemporary style to create a light, airy and welcoming hotel moments from the sea.

Built in 1790 to the highest standards of its day, the building has been home to several notable figures including Admiral Samuel Hood Linzee of HMS Temeraire, the ship made famous by JMW Turner's iconic painting The Fighting Temeraire and the Carne family, an influential banking and mining dynasty instrumental in the development of Penzance during the 19th century. Since then, Chapel House has been a family home, a shelter for WW2 evacuees, a lodging house, and from 1993 to 2011, the Penzance Arts Club.

The house has been brought back to life following an extensive two-year redesign and renovation by Penzance firms Loci Architecture and Catling Construction combining carefully preserved original features with contemporary touches. The décor throughout takes its lead from the sea, featuring soft greys, greens and blues, enhanced by the natural light which floods the building. The Newlyn School of Art curates a constantly changing gallery of artwork in the entrance hall and first floor landing, juxtaposing beautiful modern art next to the traditional Georgian features in a stunning partnership.

The bedrooms, of which there are six in total, are found on the first and second floor, and all have views across to the sea. Three have large sea-facing windows giving impressive views over Penzance harbour and Mount's Bay as far as Lizard Point, ideal for watching the fishing boats in the early morning light. Rooms are refreshingly simple, with Smart TVs, iPads and coffee and tea making facilities available on demand, and fabulous bathrooms with waterfall showers, deep soaking baths from Cabuchon and delicious products from Pure Nuff Stuff in Penzance.

On the lower ground floor guests are invited into the very heart of the building. Decorated in blues and greys, with the original flagstones on the floor, the kitchen and dining area welcomes guests to relax and enjoy some complimentary cake and coffee throughout the afternoon. The kitchen leads out onto the sun filled outdoor area, with a sea facing terrace and a garden planted with 'Cornwall Exotics', the perfect location for a sun downer.

Dining at The Chapel House is a relaxed occasion, and you can choose whether to eat en famille with other guests or to take your meal on the terrace. Owner Susan Stuart is a gifted and thoughtful cook, creating delicious dinners for residents and non residents alike, using local suppliers, seasonal produce and fresh ingredients.

The menus are simple and fresh, with dishes like Cornish Asparagus with freshly made hollandaise, Pan Fried Brill with Cornish Early potatoes and samphire, rounded off with Saffron Bread & Butter pudding. Dinner is available to guests on request throughout the week and the kitchen is open to the public for suppers on a Friday and Saturday from 7.3o with early evening drinks from 6.30. Sunday features brunch and a traditional Sunday Roast whilst breakfast is available from as early as you like until 10.30.

Guests are ensured of a warm welcome from Susan and her team, who are always on hand to help with any queries or advise on all the great places and activities that Penzance has to offer. Chapel House PZ straddles the line between beautiful original features and modern decor, where abstract art rubs shoulders with decorative cornicing, with wonderful results.
