News provided by Rocket Pop PR on Thursday 19th Sep 2013

The Curry Capital of Britain 2013 will see more cities than ever competing for the title with two new cities, Brighton and Oxford, joining the competition for the first time.

The cities invited to compete for 2013 by the organisers are: London East, London North, London South, London West, London Central, Birmingham, Leicester, Cardiff, Bradford, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Northampton, Brighton and Oxford.

Apart from London, Brighton & Hove is the only city in the south of England is be nominated.

Last year, Bradford won for a second year running narrowly beating four times winner Glasgow, but early voting suggests there may be some dark horses this year.

In 2012, over a quarter of a million curry fans voted for their favourite restaurants and city and this year the response is expected to be even greater with the active support of lead event sponsors hungryhouse.co.uk.

Peter Grove who organises the annual event on behalf of The Federation of Specialist Restaurants says, "I hope the media, councils and restaurants, indeed any body that has direct contact with the curry eating public encourages them to vote and make this year's event even more exciting."

Brighton & Hove will be represented by four restaurants:

Indian Summer, Chilli Pickle, Moonstone and Chaula's.

"Brighton is home to a most discerning clientele and deserves to be this year's Curry Capital - the emphasis here is on high quality, authentic regional Indian cuisine," said Minesh Agnihotri, co owner of front runner, Indian Summer, who added, "With 250 restaurants for every inhabitant - we are already the restaurant capital of Britain - the competition is fierce - which keeps standards high."

The award are also part of National Curry Week (7th - 14th October) which is sponsored by Patak's and The Hairy Bikers' Great Curries.

The deadline for public voting is 27th September. Curry lovers can vote for their favourite city and restaurant by emailing vote@fedrest.com

and online at www.currycapitalofbritain.org.uk/vote

Voters can register to win £300 worth of vouchers from HungryHouse.co.uk
