B&Q 'Funday' to raise funds in memory of young campaigner who died of pancreatic cancer

Nikki Currums of Fakenham, with the help of her colleagues, is holding a B&Q Funday on Wednesday 16th April at the B&Q store in Fakenham, Norfolk for Pancreatic Cancer Action.
Nikki hopes to raise hundreds by organising a 'funday' at her local B&Q. She said: "I have decided to organise this event for Pancreatic Cancer Action because Kerry Harvey, who sadly died of pancreatic cancer in February aged 24, was a good friend of mine.
"I met Kerry while we were both student volunteers during our time at university, and we remained friends for the following years,” she adds. “She amazed me all the way through her illness."
Pancreatic cancer is the fifth biggest cancer killer in the UK. Every day, 23 people are diagnosed with the disease and they currently face just a three per cent chance of survival, the lowest survival rate of all 22 common cancers. The amount spent on research into the disease stands at just 1% of cancer research funding.
Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.
The event will be a day of fancy dress, raffles and treasure hunts alongside a very generous and brave colleague who will be shaving off his beard and long hair that he has been growing for 6 years.
Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: "We are delighted that Nikki and the B&Q team are giving their time to support Pancreatic Cancer Action and in memory of the wonderful Kerry Harvey.
“Since her diagnosis in April 2013, Kerry spent her time raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, a disease she had never heard of before her own diagnosis,” continues Ali. “She wanted more people to be aware of the disease and symptoms and drive earlier diagnosis.”
"As a charity, we rely on the generosity of people like Nikki to help us continue our vital work. If you are local to the area, please go along and back the team in their fundraising efforts so that we can continue research into early diagnosis and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer."
