Black Friday Buyer Beware: The Money Wasting Mistakes to Avoid This Weekend
Sanity check the deal. 30% off something that was significantly overpriced in the first place isn't a good deal.
Black Friday is here. And we'll spend millions online this weekend bagging bargains in the run up to Christmas. But buyer beware - not every deal is as great as it seems.
Julian House, founder of My Favourite Voucher Codes (https://www.myfavouritevouchercodes.co.uk/), advises consumers:
"Remember, it's only a bargain if you're actually saving money. Buying something you don't need on an impulse means, regardless of how good the deal is, you're ultimately spending more than you would have or than you need to. Get a list and know what you need before hitting the shops or online shopping."
He continues:
"Sanity check the deal. 30% off something that was significantly overpriced in the first place isn't a good deal. When you see the product, do a quick online comparison to find out whether it really is the cheapest by buying from that one particular retailer. And consider using the Wayback Machine (https://archive.org/web/) to put in a web page and see what that page looked like (including prices for online stores) at a given point in history."
Finally, he concludes:
"That's not to say there are not amazing deals to be had. And some retailers are even letting you use voucher codes on top of any Black Friday savings. Body Shop has an immense 40% off code working in conjunction with a number of other offers, for example. So check out My Favourite Voucher Codes and see what discounts you can bag on top of the Black Friday bargains already in place."
Black Friday is 23rd November, followed by Cyber Monday on 26th November. The weekend is hotly anticipated to be the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
My Favourite Voucher Codes was founded by Julian House and donates a cut of all commissions to charity. The organisation has donated over £50,000 to charity since it was founded and users vote on chosen charities each month.
