Battersea Old Windsor welcomes 800th animal of 2015

News provided by Pressat Wire on Thursday 21st May 2015

Eight hundred dogs and cats have come through the doors of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Old Windsor this year, as the Berkshire centre sees an increased number of people giving up their pets.

A five month old Pug puppy named Bubble was the 800th animal to arrive at the charity, and was brought in after his owners found him too excitable in the family home and turned to Battersea for help.

Battersea Old Windsor takes in an average of six animals per day, and boisterous Bubble is just one of the thousands of animals that the charity will care for this year. In 2014 the centre cared for around 2,000 animals with almost 60% of these dogs and cats being given up by their owners.

Kaye Mughal, Centre Manager at Battersea Old Windsor says: "We're seeing an increase in people giving up their pets, but our doors are open 365 days a year and we'll always help those animals that need us. Bubble is an adorable pup but needs owners that can commit to his training. We're sure it won't be long before the right owners come along and he's happily settled in a new home."

Bubble arrived at the centre just in time for Battersea Old Windsor's 12th Annual Fun Day on Saturday 4 July 2015. The day promises to be a spectacular family event and welcomes all dogs, not just former Battersea residents. Visitors are encouraged to enter their canine friends in one of the hotly contested dog classes such as Golden Oldie, Handsomest Dog, and Best Battersea Dog, while families and friends can enjoy games and stalls from 10:30am – 4:30pm.

This special event raises hundreds of pounds, which are vital to help Battersea rescue, rehome and reunite thousands of dogs and cats across the UK. You can find out more information on Battersea's website http://www.battersea.org.uk/funday
