Bath: Rethinking Refugee

3rd April 2017 12pm - 2pm

We presented our approach to refugee resettlement and integration at this event, revealing how to rethink refugees as assets rather than liabilities. There were plenty of insightful and probing questions from the audience, covering topics including asylum status, the education system and the gaps between the Local Housing Allowance and market rent.

It was agreed that we need to change the narrative around refugees and work together to find more housing for refugees in Bath & North East Somerset.

We would like to thank Bath & North East Somerset Council for hosting the event, Cllr. Tim Warren for speaking, and Bath Welcomes Refugees, Sarah Prettejohns from Bath & North East Somerset Council and Jane Ginnever from the Institute of Directors, for helping with its organisation.

We look forward to continuing this dialogue with interested parties across the West of England.

I’d like to commend the great work being done to change lives by Bath Welcomes Refugees and Ashley Community Housing.” Cllr. Tim Warren, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Great event yesterday with Ashley Community Housing changing the narrative around refugees. They are an asset, not a burden! #rethinkingrefugee” – Jess Milton, Protestival.

This event was part of our commitment to share our expertise refugee resettlement and integration across the West of England.

Looking at refugees as a resource, not a liability, is something that business can really lead and act on. The #RethinkingRefugee initiative is much-needed and the event in Bath was a great intro to it.” Jane Ginnever, SHIFT and Institute of Directors.
