A report has named Manchester as the entrepreneur capital of the UK due to a recent government assessment. According to government findings Manchester has received almost £1.4 million pounds for Startups, more than anywhere else in the country. The funding is the result of a government lead programme launched in 2012 to support the growth and establishment of new businesses to allow them a greater shot at success.

Since the beginning of the coalition government in 2010, 300,000 new businesses have been launched across the UK, with 50,000 of those establishing themselves as recently as April. Prime Minister David Cameron applauded the regions pioneering spirit and stated that backing young businesses is a key part of the conservatives’ long term plan for a complete economic recovery.

A government analysis claims that 46,000 people have got back into work through the programme. More than 1100 loans have been handed out thanks to the northern based scheme, and the Prime Minister is set to visit a selection of the 500 Manchester based Startups established by previously unemployed people who sought help through the scheme.
