Atkins' Transportation Experts Win Four Contracts Across Three US States
News provided by Pressat Wire on Monday 24th Feb 2014
Atkins has won four major transportation contracts across the south-central and south eastern US, which will help accommodate growth, increase traffic efficiency, and improve convenience for millions of road travellers every month.
L. Joe Boyer, Atkins' CEO, North America, said: "These high-quality transportation contract wins are due not only to the design, engineering, and project management skills of our staff, but to the outstanding relationships we've formed with transportation agencies in so many states across the country. Our clients know they can count on Atkins to achieve their project goals - and help make America's roadways safer and more efficient."
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has reselected Atkins as its state wide prime consultant for toll-plaza planning, development, and implementation. Under the terms of the five-year, $10 million contract, Atkins will provide planning, development, infrastructure design and coordination, system installation, integration, and testing services for TxDOT's toll and managed-lane facilities, which serve more than 100 miles of toll roads.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six has awarded a $243.6 million design-build contract to the Community/Condotte/de Moya Joint Venture of Miami, Florida to add about 21 kilometres of tolled express lanes to portions of the Palmetto Expressway and Interstate 75 (I-75) in Miami-Dade County, northwest of the City of Miami. Atkins - in collaboration with Stantec and BCC Engineering - has been selected to serve as a project designer, providing civil engineering, design, and architecture services for structures, surveys, landscaping, and tolling and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
Also in Florida, FDOT District Seven has awarded Atkins a design-build contract to widen I-75 in Pasco County, north of Tampa. This multimillion dollar project also calls for the reconstruction of a major interchange and improvements to several secondary roadways that intersect with I-75. Atkins will serve as prime project designer and will provide a broad range of engineering and design services related to roadways, structures, landscaping, drainage, environmental permitting, public involvement, surveying, and ITS. Atkins' partner in the project is Prince Contracting, LLC.
In Alabama, the Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has selected Atkins to perform construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for federally funded transportation projects state wide through to the end of 2015. Atkins is also listed as an on-call consultant that can provide CEI services for city and county projects across the state. The new contract spotlights the long-term relationship Atkins has enjoyed with ALDOT, having provided the agency with a wide variety of on-call CEI services since 1998.
Atkins has decades of experience in successfully providing expressway, toll way, and highway engineering and design services for national and state transportation agencies from Florida (Florida's Turnpike Enterprise) to California (Contra Costa Transportation Authority); and has provided transportation-related consultant services for capital improvements valued at well over $25 billion nationwide. For example, Atkins leads the way in helping clients take advantage of today's trends in toll technology and operations, including all-electronic tolling, video tolling, open road tolling, shared and streamlined customer service centre operations, and express/managed lanes.
