Announcing the GAR-CIArb Index
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and Global Arbitration Review (GAR) have teamed up to publish an ‘index’ of the world’s arbitral seats.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and Global Arbitration Review (GAR) have teamed up to publish an ‘index’ of the world’s arbitral seats.
To be released next year, the index will be based on the “AAA, AA, A…” system pioneered by credit rating agencies. It will be assessed on the basis of CIArb’s London Principles, a series of ten principles comprising the elements of a safe seat for international arbitration developed in 2015 for CIArb’s centenary year by a committee led by Lord Goldsmith QC and CIArb companion Professor Doug Jones AO.
The first ratings will be published next year and will cover Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, Singapore and Switzerland (both Geneva and Zurich). Further seats will be added in future GAR editions.
The index will be based on the submissions of members of the GAR and CIArb community and ratings will be decided initially by an assessment panel consisting of Francísco Cossío (González de Cossío Abogados), Daniel Kalderimis (Chapman Tripp), Sae Youn Kim (Yulchon), Larry Schaner (Schaner Dispute Resolution) and Nathalie Voser (Schellenberg Wittmer), all convened by Professor Janet Walker (Arbitration Place).
The GAR-CIArb index will be published Spring 2018.
Ends.
