All I want for Christmas
"All I want for Christmas... is for my arthritis to go away" by Trinity, aged 6
At the time of year when most children are writing letters to Santa with a wishlist of their presents, this is what I found our daughter had written:
"Dear Lord please make my arthritis go away. I know that you are helping daddy to find a cure for juvenile arthritis. You know how painful it is. And nothing is impossible. God you can help me." (Trinity, aged 6)
I founded Juvenile Arthritis Research at the start of this year with the aim of finding a cure for juvenile idiopathic arthritis - a painful autoimmune condition affecting 1 in every 1000 children and young people under the age of 16, that's around 15,000 children in the UK alone.
Yet many people remain unaware that children can get arthritis as it is often thought of as a disease afflicting the elderly.
As we approach the festive season, we know of many children with juvenile arthritis whose number one wish this Christmas is to be free from the pain caused by their arthritis.
If you are interested in finding out more about what Christmas is like for a child with arthritis, please get in touch.
