FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A NEW FESTIVAL FOR FOOTBALL CULTURE KICKS OFF IN AUGUST

Jumpers for Goalposts is a new festival for football culture that will be held at the iconic Printworks site in Surrey Quays on 3rd and 4th August 2019.

The festival will bring together a diverse range of fans, creators and communities for a box-to-box weekend packed with football culture activities for all ages and interests.

With an extensive programme, it promises the thrill and spectacle of a high-scoring match without a ball being kicked on the eve of the new football season. There will be panels, movie and documentary screenings, live audience podcast recordings, exhibitions, a football classroom, retro video games, a marketplace, street food and more.

This first-of-its-kind event reflects the myriad of ways in which communities and fans have increasingly used football to create, do good and build relationships, particularly in the grassroots game or through social media.

Organised by a small, diverse team of five, the festival is designed to appeal to a wider audience than the typically male-oriented, highly visible world of football. In a year of great divisiveness on the pitch, struggles with representation off of it, and fears about the future of the game, Jumpers for Goalposts intends to show that there is still great togetherness amongst football communities with many positive shared values and goals for the still-beautiful game.

“Football culture means something different to everyone and we wanted to reflect this with an event that appeals to both huge football fans as well as those with a passing interest,” stated festival producer Rahul Keerthi. “There’s something for everyone, whether you like travel, music or design. Ultimately, we want people to see more of the positive side of football and to discover ways to get involved in football communities aligned with their interests or close to where they live.”

Early Bird Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, 24th April 2019, alongside the release of the festival’s initial line-up.
