£10 Million Cash Boost For Godmanchester Thanks To Homebuilders

News provided by Pressat Wire on Monday 18th Jan 2016

More than £10 million is being invested into the community in Godmanchester, thanks to leading developers Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The funding, which totals over £10 million, comes as part of the planning agreement for the homebuilders' new Romans' Edge development, off Bearscroft Lane, and will benefit both new and established residents through improved services and facilities.

“At David Wilson Homes we believe community investment is one of the most important aspects of any new housing scheme,” said Chris Hatfield, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, “And so, as our Romans' Edge development continues to progress we'll be contributing a great deal to the local community in Godmanchester.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “As a five-star homebuilder we pride ourselves on being able to truly support the communities in and around our developments and we hope these contributions will have a positive impact on the lives of local people.”

Contributions will be for:

  • Education in the local area
  • Education contribution uplift
  • Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contribution
  • Bus service provision
  • Community facilities
  • Street works
  • Ramp metering to the A14
  • Riverside junction works
  • Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)

David Wilson Homes' Romans' Edge development will offer a range of stylish two, three, four and five-bedroom homes set in the historic Cambridgeshire town of Godmanchester.

Barratt Homes' neighbouring development will feature a range of 3 and 4 bed homes, ideal for first-time buyers and growing families.

Godmanchester has a village feel to it, with a welcoming community, social club and lots of greenery. A doctors' surgery, dentist and post office close to the development offer convenience, and there are an array of schools catering for all ages.

Plus, good transport links via the A14, M11 and A1, as well as Huntingdon Railway Station make the development a good choice for commuters.

Homes at Romans' Edge are expected to go on sale this spring.
