The 'Honey Peach' is a great fruit tree to get children out into the garden and growing their own this summer.

Tuesday 13 May, 2014

Until recently the Honey Peach [syn 'Saturn'] was almost unknown in the UK. But last Summer a few punnets of the delectably sweet fruits made their way into high-end grocers and supermarkets and interest immediately spiked.
"We have been inundated with requests for trees of this fruitful delicacy" says Nursery M.D John Bowers. "It's not hard to see why; the fruits are ideal for kids - being half the size of normal Peaches they are ideal for lunch boxes. They are also incredibly sweet and moreish with a near-white flesh. The curious flattened shape also gets them noticed by parents alike and a punnet never lasts long"

The Chris Bowers fruit tree Nursery has been working up sufficient stocks to satisfy this sudden demand and is confident that the trees' credentials are ideal for today's modern gardens.

"This Peach is ideal for a patio or small garden. If any fruit tree could be considered perfect for a pot, then this would be it and it actually seems to fruit more heavily when in a container" John says. It will also enjoy the added warmth and sunshine of a patio. The rose pink flowers are beautiful and this tree can double as an ornamental and at only 180cm's or so in height it's easily accommodated even into small gardens. Frost hardy, the flowers are a magnet to bees too. The tree thrives on little or no pruning.

A tree guaranteed to pique the interest of potential young gardeners, what better way could there be to get children out into the garden this summer and have a go growing a fruit tree of their own.

Fruiting-age trees are available in containers now, price £27.95 each.
