Commenting on today's publication, Peter Patterson, Deputy Chief Economic Adviser at the Office for National Statistics said:
"Today's figures show that the economy grew by 3% over the last year, although it is still 0.6% smaller than at its peak in 2008, before the start of the economic downturn. Investment has picked up sharply and now accounts for nearly half of the year-on-year growth, broadly matching the contribution of household spending. The volume of business investment is up by more than 10% on a year ago, with a 5% jump in the latest quarter alone."
