Celebrate the Quintessential British Tradition During Afternoon Tea Week

Thursday 6 August, 2026

The nation’s favourite tea-time tradition returns for the thirteenth year with Afternoon Tea Week, taking place from Monday 10th
August until Sunday 16th August 2026
. This annual celebration invites foodies, families, and tea lovers alike to enjoy one of Britain’s most beloved pastimes, complemented with some of the 100 million cups of tea we drink as a nation every day.

Whether you prefer a more traditional experience with freshly cut finger sandwiches and starched white tablecloths, or a more contemporary Afternoon Tea with theatrical touches, it is the perfect excuse to indulge and catch up with loved ones.

The tradition of Afternoon Tea is attributed to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, who is said to have complained of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon. Later, friends were invited to join her until all fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon.

Highlights of this year’s festivities include:

With its elegant sandwiches, warm scones, and decadent patisserie, afternoon tea continues to capture hearts across generations. Whether you're celebrating with friends or discovering it for the first time, Afternoon Tea Week 2026 promises something special for everyone.
