10 October 2019 The British Tinnitus Association (BTA) Chief Executive David Stockdale will be talking about the latest developments in tinnitus research at the next meeting of the Warwick tinnitus support group. The meeting will take place at 2.00pm – 4.00pm Friday 22 November, in Room 5, John Turner Building, Warwick Hospital, Lakin Road, Warwick CV34 5BW.
The group, which holds the BTA Gold Standard for tinnitus support groups is organised by the Audiology Department at Warwick Hospital. It allows people with tinnitus to come together in a friendly environment and share their experiences.
David comments: “I look forward to coming to Warwick and speaking with the support group and sharing the latest news about tinnitus research and the search for a cure. Being among people who have tinnitus, listening to their experiences and how they manage it, can be inspirational.”
Tinnitus is defined as the experience of sounds with no external source, most commonly ringing or buzzing, but sometimes experienced as whooshing, clicking or even music. Many people aren’t troubled by sounds they hear, but for around 10%, tinnitus has a significant impact on their quality of life, often linked to stress, anxiety or sometimes depression.
David adds: “Tinnitus can be an isolating condition, and we’re keen to spread the word that there are management techniques which can help a person lead the best life they can, and to reduce the burden of living with this condition.”
