Technology trustee appointment as NEC gears up for new GCSE and A level curriculum

Friday 27 March, 2015

Open and distance learning provider the National Extension College (NEC) has appointed education technology specialist Dick Moore as a trustee. The appointment comes as NEC, the UK's only national not-for-profit provider of intermediate level qualifications, prepares for the launch in September of 10 GCSE and A level courses on a new Moodle platform in response to the government's qualification reforms.

Dick has held senior technology roles in the further education sector in England, including ten years at national e-learning network learndirect, where he was director of technology. In 2010, he founded MooreAnswers, a consultancy that provides practical approaches to technology for the education sector in the UK and US. Clients include the Open College of the Arts, NIACE and City & Guilds. Dick is a fellow of Education Impact, an independent global fellowship of the world's leading consultants who aim to use information technology to transform teaching, learning and institutional administration.

NEC Chief Executive Dr Ros Morpeth said: 'We are delighted to welcome Dick to NEC's board of trustees. His innovative approach and experience of delivering and managing learning through integrated and secure systems will be invaluable as we continue to develop the distinctive service we offer to young people and adults.'

NEC trustee Dr Peter Lavender has been appointed Professor of Education at the University of Wolverhampton. He is job-sharing the role with Alan Tuckett, a former NEC Trustee and current President of the International Council for Adult Education. Peter is a research supervisor for the Open University's Ed D (Doctor of Education) programme and works in an honorary role as a senior research fellow for NIACE (the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education). In 2006 Peter was awarded an OBE for services to education. He describes himself as a 'passionate supporter' of NEC's work.
