CHARITY FILM AWARDS 2020

Sussex Homeless Support in the running
for national award

Local charity, Sussex Homeless Support, is in the running for a national award in recognition
of an inspiring film designed to recruit more supporters and highlight the plight of the
homeless in the community.

“We are all just one step away from being homeless”.

The documentary looks into the issues faced by Sussex Homeless Support and the people
they help. An insight into a week with the charity from collecting food waste and provisions to
running the Street Kitchen, distributing emergency tents and food and running the buses
which give emergency accommodation, a hot meal and a safe haven to up to 20 homeless
and their pets each night. The compassion of founder Jim Deans and the volunteers shines
through and their support of the homeless and rough sleepers in the community is inspiring.
This support helps many homeless people keep their dignity and get back on their feet.

Supporters of the charity, have been urged to support the organisation and vote for the film
at the Charity Film Awards website www.CharityFilmAwards.com

The Charity Film Awards champions effective story-telling and digital engagement among
not-for-profits in the UK.

Since its launch in 2017 over 1000 charity films have entered and over 1⁄4 million members of
the public have voted. The awards have driven significantly increased video views, positive
PR, social media engagement and donations for the participating charities. Last year’s
winners include: Child Bereavement UK, NSPCC/Childline, RSPCA, Cats Protection and
Breast Cancer Care.

Simon Burton, founder of the Charity Film Awards, commented:

“All the charities that have entered deserve to be congratulated, but they need more than
thanks, they need votes!

“It’s simple for the public to vote for their favourite charity film at www.charityfilmawards.com
and many voters also go onto donate. Nearly 10% of those who voted last year also made a
donation.”

The Awards are free to enter for charities. The current public vote phase will determine the
final shortlist, which will then be judged by a panel of experts. The winners will be
announced at a gala event at a prestigious venue in London in Spring 2020.
