Residential Mosaic Course in Le Marche, Italy

Saturday 6 – Saturday 13 June 2015

SPECIAL OFFER ENDS 31 JANUARY 2015

Immerse yourself in rural Italy. What could be more authentic than a week learning the ancient art of mosaic making and creating your very own contemporary piece, working near Ravenna - a city renowned for its breathtaking mosaics and staying in a charming Italian home, being fed by your resident hosts.

Taught by one of the UK's foremost mosaic artists, Joanna Kessel (www.joannakessel.co.uk), this course teaches you how to design a mosaic, select the appropriate Venetian glass smalti and create your very own contemporary piece. Whether you are a complete beginner or have tried your hand at this art form before, Joanna will work with each pupil to develop their individual skills and style.

Inspiration will be close at hand in nearby Ravenna (http://www.turismo.ra.it/eng/Homepage), whose early Christian churches and mosaics have been designated a UNESCO world heritage site. Students will be able to visit some of these Byzantine marvels as well as visit a contemporary mosaic studio and see at first hand modern works in creation.

The course is based at Casa Uno, near San Costanzo in Le Marche; a rural family home owned by a Scottish textile artist and her Italian husband. Accommodation is a comfortable double or twin room with en-suite facilities. There will be a maximum of 10 guests, an opportunity to come in a group or to meet new, like minded people.

The teaching will take place mainly in the mornings, at the nearby Agriturismo Colomboni. In the afternoons guests are free to roam, perhaps to visit to a local hill town, or a trip to the seaside. If that sounds too much like hard work, a swim in the pool at Colomboni and a lounge in the gardens at Casa Uno is also an option!

Le Marche is particularly well known in Italy for its food. Guests will be admirably catered for by their hosts who have developed a passion for sourcing exquisite Italian produce. There will also be an opportunity to go along to a tasting session at a local wine and olive oil producer as well as a memorable night out at Rolando's – a local restaurant whose patron is renowned as much for his ebullient character as for the excellent Marchese dishes!

''the course exceeded all expectations for a holiday – wonderful location, excellent hosts, good company – a true five star experience'' SC

The course runs from Saturday 6 June to Saturday 13 June 2015. As a special offer, guests who book before 31 January 2015 will receive a miniature Joanna Kessel mosaic. What's more, if students recommend the course to a friend who books a place, they will receive a mosaic goody bag for use on the course.
