Sian Welby asks nation to support The Sick Children's Trust's Christmas appeal

Friday 8 December, 2017

Sick Children's Trust Celebrity Ambassador Sian Welby is asking the nation to donate £30 this Christmas to give a family with a seriously ill child in hospital a 'Home from Home'. Heart Radio Presenter, Sian, says:

"Now the nights are drawing in, it means one thing… the festive season is here. And I for one am super excited!

"My favourite thing about Christmas is spending it together with my family. But this year, many families with a critically ill child in a specialist hospital will face the stress of a long journey to be at their child’s side from the moment they wake up on Christmas Day.

"Although the latest gadgets, clothes and toys are high up on a lot of people’s lists, one thing we can all agree is that being around your loved ones is the most important thing at Christmas.

"For some families, this time together is priceless, as their child undergoes lifesaving treatment in hospital. The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity they turn to, to help them create special Christmas memories. It’s an incredible cause which is very close to my heart.

"This Christmas they need to raise £13,140 to keep families together in free accommodation at one of their ten ‘Homes from Home’. Families who are wishing to just be there on Christmas morning when their children open their eyes. And this is a wish we can grant.

"A donation of £30 will give a family a place to stay in a Sick Children’s Trust’s ‘Home from Home’, just minutes from their child’s bedside.

"What better gift to give this Christmas?"

The Sick
Children’s Trust is a national charity which supports around 4,000 families
every year. The charity relies entirely on voluntary donations to keep its ten
‘Homes from Home’ running, providing vital support to families with children
undergoing lifesaving treatment in hospital. This Christmas it expects that
every room in every house will be full with families, caring for some of the
UK’s sickest children. The Christmas appeal aims to raise £13,140, enough to
run its ten ‘Homes from Home’, providing essential emotional and practical
support to families in need.
