Rum, Bum and Baccy - True Tales of Sailors in the 1960s and 70s

Tuesday 22 July, 2014

27 short true stories about the life of a sailor in the 1960s and 70s.

Read about a goat called Walter who passed his fag rations at H.M.S Raleigh to an Australian shipmate, who during the war whilst fighting with an Australian regiment leant the Germans ammo so they could carry on with the battle.

From drinking St Helena dry, to receiving a form of the birch in boys’ training at H.M.S Ganges, this book takes you on an adventurous world tour and makes ideal holiday travel or home reading.

Born and raised in Swaffham Norfolk, the author, on leaving the sea after 16 years, became a grocer leading to a cash and carry owner, publican, hotelier and Spanish bar owner.

His various interests have included amateur boxing, weight lifting, world travels and dining out. More than anything, he has always enjoyed good conversation and reading a great book.

Author Bernie Howard invites you to share a taste of the sailor’s life. Read an extract from Rum, Bum and Baccy - True Tales of Sailors in the 1960s and 70s here: http://www.authorsonline.co.uk/bookshop.php?act=bookview&id=4177
