Pseudomyxoma Survivor is delighted to announce the patronage of Sean Hepburn Ferrer

Wednesday 5 March, 2014

For the first time in the history of the charity, Pseudomyxoma Survivor is proud to announce its very first patron: Sean Hepburn Ferrer.

Sean is a fitting patron as his mother, the actress Audrey Hepburn, sadly lost her fight with PMP on January 20th 1993, aged just 63. Sean has supported Pseudomyxoma Survivor during the early days of the charity and through the development and progression into the strong organisation it has grown to become today.

Chief Executive, Dawn Green, said, “It is a great honour for the charity that Sean Hepburn Ferrer has chosen to become our patron. We are very grateful to Sean whose support will enable us to raise further awareness both of pseudomyxoma peritonei and other peritoneal surface malignancies. We very much see this as a natural progression of our relationship with him and follows his recent appointment as EURORDIS Rare Disease Day Ambassador 2014, representing all rare diseases. Even 20 years after Audrey Hepburn’s death, one of the greatest challenges for patients continues to be a correct and timely diagnosis and onward referral to a specialist and access to the Standard of Care for the disease: cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC).

"In many cases, the symptoms of patients are misunderstood for years. They are thus less likely to benefit from this treatment. We are thrilled that Sean will be supporting us in our mission to raise awareness of the disease and to support those affected by PMP.”
