n response to the release of Peter Wanless's report on child abuse, Matthew Reed, Chief Executive of The Children's Society, said:
"No stone should ever be left unturned when it comes to investigating allegations of child abuse, whether in the past or the present.
"It is critical that past abuse is exposed and that institutional failings from the past are addressed. Historic crimes must not repeated in the future. The broader independent inquiry needs to put children's voices and their rights at its heart. Their right to be heard. Their right for justice. Their right for effective support to help them recover.
"It must tackle the systematic and institutional failures that have left some of the most vulnerable children in this country open to abuse and prevent these crimes from happening again."
