May 2020 - Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard ophthalmic and optometry equipment, is pleased to offer its LENSTAR 900 biometer customers a FREE downloadable breath shield template.
The World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) have issued a set of guidelines for ophthalmologists caring for patients potentially infected with the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
In line with these organisations, Haag-Streit Diagnostics, the manufacturer of the LENSTAR biometer, recommends the use of breath shields to help protect eyecare professionals, and their patients, when cataract services resume in the UK. These will work in addition to face masks, goggles and other protective equipment, and will act as an added barrier against potential respiratory cross infection. The breath shield will help to protect the Operator and the Patient from potential droplet infection when sneezing or breathing.
Haag-Streit Diagnostics has developed a FREE template to enable Clinicians to create a breath shield themselves, inexpensively. This A3 template works in conjunction with all LENSTAR models and it is recommended that the shield’s central aperture is fixed to the user side of the biometer for increased stability.
