Revaluetech has developed ground-breaking technology enabling mixed plastic waste to be used to manufacture a wide range of composites in place of concrete and wood. From the outset two main objectives were set:
In a development programme lasting 8 years, costing in excess of £600,000 Revaluetech has achieved these two vital objectives.
The process is able to use rejected mixed plastic waste from MRF, PRF, MBT, AD plants and marine litter.This mixed fraction can include plastic bags, all types and colours of pots, tubs and trays, sandwich boxes, egg cartons, hamburger boxes, shrink and stretch wrap films, metallised film packaging and multi-layer films used in cereal boxes.
The resulting inert composite products offer 60% weight saving compared to their concrete counterparts, are virtually unbreakable and offer far longer, maintenance free service life compared to the products they replace.Use contributes towards significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to concrete.
With a density similar to hardwood, presently used in dock pilings, groynes, revetments and sea defences, these inert, ecologically safe, heavy duty composites provide an important vital means to reduce import of hardwood from tropical rain forests.They are already providing an environmentally sustainable resource for the Environment Agency and their contractors, at a time when coastal and inland flood defences need to be strengthened as a result of the exceptional weather conditions we are now experiencing.
These composites have been field tested for use as road and edging kerbs, decking, fencing and revetments to stabilise landslip, offering substantial and sustainable market applications. When used as floor joists they do not absorb water thereby drastically reducing the time needed to dry out flooded properties.
With the impending 2018 ban on the use of creosote as a preservative to treat wood sleepers, composite rail sleepers and bearers have been in use for 8 years for light rail track applications and are now being seriously considered by railway operators throughout the EU.
Significantly, commercial viability in use of this technology is not affected by the price of oil or its virgin polymer derivatives, as the products bear no relationship to the original use of the plastic packaging they are made from.
The opportunity now exists to manufacture these sustainable, cost effective products, in place of inefficient recycling processes used to date, which have resulted in products far more expensive than concrete and wood.
In the U.K we are currently working with Tarmac Building Products, part of the CRH international building materials Group. Their aim is to build plants to manufacture composites for rail, construction and environmental applications.With a lack of hardwood from certified sources their use provides an ideal means to reduce the effects of climate change.
Revaluetech is now able to offer this commercially viable process technology globally to interested parties, in the form of licensing agreements, coupled with Revaluetech turnkey project management from order through to installation and commissioning of complete manufacturing plants.
