But what if the past comes to you?
Joel (Marty) is the last of four children and the only one given up for adoption. He begins a wonderful childhood growing up with his older adopted brother and loving parents. Joel’s hint at his past gives him little reason to search for his birth family but as he approaches eighteen and much to everyone else’s surprise the tables turn when Martha, his birth mother comes looking for him. The events that follow leave Joel embroiled in a family history which changes his life and identity forever.

We will be presenting some short extracts from the play, as part of a rehearsed reading, followed by a facilitated discussion exploring the perceptions around adoption and reunions.
We are delighted to be working with Coram who will lead the Q&A session following the performance. We particularly welcome fostering and adoption communities to be part of the conversation.
This event is programmed before an Arts Council England funded R&D week culminating in dates programmed at Coram and Soho Theatre during National Adoption Week (15 to 21 October).
