Fitness instructor to organise a high energy fundraiser to raise funds for two important causes

Monday 24 March, 2014

Leeds man, Terry Gilchrist, will be holding an exciting indoor Fitness Fundraiser on Monday the 28th April at Corpus Christi Catholic College and Tuesday the 29th April at Crawshaw High School for Pancreatic Cancer Action and SANE Mental Health.

Terry hopes to raise over £500 by holding this event. Terry said: “I have decided to organise this event for Pancreatic Cancer Action after listening to Kerry Harvey being interviewed on This Morning. She passed away from pancreatic cancer shortly after her interview.

“Kerry seriously made me think about something that if I’m honest, I hadn’t thought about previously,” says Terry. “I quickly gained a tremendous amount of respect for the bravery and determination of all the people involved in the recent awareness campaign. I hope the planned fundraising events can help to continue increased awareness and help raise more money in the future.”

The event will be held over two consecutive nights in Leeds; it consists of a 1 hour, high-energy fitness workout that will include guest trainers and a raffle. Terry hopes to make this an annual event and is also planning to run three to four events next year, all for different charities. The entry for the Fitness Fundraiser will be a minimum donation of £5.

Currently only 3% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive beyond five years. Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.

Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “We are delighted that Terry is giving his time to support Pancreatic Cancer Action.

”As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Terry to help us continue our vital work. Please back Terry in their fundraising efforts so that we can continue research into early diagnosis and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.”
