Edward Elgar Publishing (EEP), a leading international academic publisher headquartered in Cheltenham, has been awarded the prestigious Fox Williams Independent Publisher of the Year Award 2017 at this year’s Independent Publishing Guild (IPG) Awards.
As a "resolutely forward-looking business", expanding into law publishing and building digital platform Elgaronline, the judges praised EEP for "punching way above its weight despite competition from far larger operators".
“Edward Elgar produced an outstanding performance in a difficult market in 2016,” the judges said. “It is a very well run and profitable company with excellent partnerships, great author care and consistently superb customer service.”
We are thrilled by this recognition from our peers. The shortlist included some impressive publishers including Cambridge, Sage and Jessica Kingsley. Just to be grouped alongside them would have been recognition enough. We are very grateful to all of our authors and contributors that have trusted us with their work, and to the wider community of reviewers and advisors on whose support we depend.
At the same awards ceremony, EEP was also awarded the ProQuest Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year Award 2017. This brings the tally of major awards received in the last 4 years to 6, with previous awards of:
Our publishing continues to develop and we have exciting plans for 2017, including an expansion of our affordable textbook programme, the launch of new journals such as the Cambridge Journal of International Law, and an increase in our Open Access publishing.
Tim Williams, Managing Director, said:
We were delighted and immensely proud on behalf of everyone at Edward Elgar Publishing to win these two awards. In our submission we touched on every department - from digital workflows, to our new production strategy, online products, sales achievements, website SEO, marketing collateral, author relationships, blog impact, journal growth, editorial quality and feedback, mass mailing systems, major new reference publications, access to knowledge among many other small and large achievements....and of course the friendly and efficient way of doing business that we provide to our authors, customers and suppliers that makes us stand out against our competitors. It is a wonderful to have our efforts recognised by our peers and the wider industry in this way.
