REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE YOUR ART
Early Warning Signs is an ongoing project by artist Ellie Harrison.
Initiated at Two Degrees festival in 2011, the project aims to allow the four rotating 'climate change' signs she produced for the festival to continue to promote their cause long into the future. Each autumn, four new host venues are invited to 'adopt a sign', agreeing to keep it on public display for the following year.
The yellow on black sign was adopted by the Centre for Contemporary Art here in Derry~Londonderry to be displayed outside the gallery for 2019. This marks the first time a sign has visited Northern Ireland.
"I'm very excited to see the sign arrive in Northern Ireland.
It has been travelling around the UK since 2011, displayed outside arts venues in London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Northampton, Derby, Sussex and Southampton. The weather is starting to age it as it travels, but its aim remains the same to grab people's attention and provoke discussion and debate about climate change. It's be interesting to see what response it gets in Derry-Londonderry" Ellie Harrison.
