Family and friends of Pauline Forde, who is battling pancreatic cancer, are planning to do an exhilarating walk along the roof top of St James’ Park football stadium in Newcastle, to raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action, on 21st June.
Pauline’s daughter Sara and her friends hope to raise vital funds for the charity. Sara said: “We decided to organise this fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer Action because it is a cause very close to my heart. My mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February but was complaining of symptoms two years before that.
“Although she is having chemotherapy, my mum has been determined to raise awareness of the disease and I want to support her in any way I can.”
Currently only 3% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive beyond five years. Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.
“I am determined to raise awareness of this disease which has an extremely low survival rate and receives very little funding,” adds Sara.
