'Don't you want to find your birth mother?'

'It’s history, what’s the point of raking up the past?'

But what if the past comes to you?

Joel is found by his birth mum and sister. He’s only eighteen and scared. Identity means a lot, particularly to a teenager. His life is about to change forever.

Until now, he's just known Mum, Dad and his adopted sister. Life is safe, settled and secure. Yes, he’s been curious about his origins but no more than that. As he turns eighteen, much to everyone’s surprise, it’s Martha, his birth mother and Melissa his birth sister who come looking for him. The events that follow, leave Joel embroiled in a family history that changes his life and identity forever.

Giving Up Marty is a brand new play by Karen Bartholomew. Robust, spare and gutsy, it takes no prisoners.

'This important piece of theatre! It truly represents a ‘slice of life’ that often is not presented or explored.'

'Anything that demystifies adoption is good thing.'

'It is not something that is ever going to disappear from our western nuclear family societal structure. I do not have any friend who does not know someone who is one of those characters.'

Giving Up Marty

'Don't you want to find your Birth Mother?' 'It’s history, what’s the point of raking up the past?' But what if the past comes to you?Motormouse Productions are thrilled to be launching their crowdfunding campaign in National Adoption Week. Partnered with Coram, we have some great content and limited edition rewards to share with you. The play, written by Karen Bartholomew challenges perceptions held around adoption, pertinent to reunion. It comes from a place of authenticity and we have growing interest in the work.

'Anything that demystifies adoption is good thing'. 'Karen’s writing is robust, spare and gutsy and her play takes no prisoners.'

'I found the play very powerful, I texted my daughter when I arrived at Coram to say I was nervous, the message back said ‘Mummy, I’m proud of you, this is your world.’ So right.'

With your help, we can go into production to premiere the play in London with tour dates to follow. Funds from the campaign will go towards our artistic spending budget, which means we can pay the actors and production team. We are in the process of applying to the Arts Council, Really Useful Group, Unity Theatre Trust and the Kent Arts Investment Award, all who funded our R&D. If those applications are successful, then we can extend our tour nationally.

Shanni is trying to find her way back into City. Her third marriage has failed and with it her dreams of a happy home life. Returning to the City is a harder journey than expected.

She’s menopausal, deemed old; it’s an awkward age for a female - isn’t it?

little reason to search for his birth family but as he approaches eighteen and much to everyone else’s

surprise the tables turn when Martha, his birth mother comes looking for him. The events that follow

leave Joel embroiled in a family history which changes his life and identity forever.

<![CDATA[ God's Waiting Room by Karen Bartholomew ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/gods-waiting-room-by-karen-bartholomew-c0b85dd312fe1a648eaf9933511772af/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/gods-waiting-room-by-karen-bartholomew-c0b85dd312fe1a648eaf9933511772af/ Tuesday 16 May, 2017

Mother is dying slowly, the wait is unbearable, the pressures insurmountable, the thoughts unbelievable. Surely a gesture towards God's bigger plan is needed? Sisters, Stella and Connie may be different from one another but share a common and profound love for their Mother. Can things really continue as they are?

"If you're going to see one play about the end of life make it this one, as you will laugh far more than you will cry."

Rosemary Branch Theatre 2016

“This bold and moving play exploring maternal love and the death of an aged relative delivers 'more laughs than tears…. swift turns of humour and sadness” (So&So; Club)

Highly acclaimed play, bringing the subject of death into the open!

A number of successful engagement events were held across Swale and Medway during the Dying Matters Awareness Week in May. As a result of suggestions for opportunities of further engagement throughout the year, Medway CCG has arranged for Motormouse Productions to perform their play ‘God’s Waiting Room’ at The Brook Theatre, Chatham.

God’s Waiting Room tells the story of two estranged sisters, coping with the end of their mother’s life. It has been written to bring the subject of death out into the open, and will be read by professional actors, who will be available to take part in a facilitated discussion on the issues raised by the story. Relevant healthcare and social care professionals will also be available at both performances.

This is a free event open to all and an excellent opportunity to see this highly acclaimed play which helps to stimulate thought and conversation around death and end of life (reviews of the play can be seen below). The play runs for 60 minutes followed by a short interval and discussion on the following dates at The Brook Theatre, Chatham, ME4 4SE

Monday 9th October, 7pm
Monday 16th October, 4pm

Tickets are free but places must be booked in advance at http://www.medwayccg.nhs.uk/godswaitingroom
