A new survey of 2,000 drivers reveals where Brits would like to be this bank holiday weekend

The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Jurassic Coast have been voted the top three road trip destinations Brits would most like to visit this Easter weekend – revealed in a new poll conducted by leading fuel brand JET.

Nearly a third of the 2,000 UK drivers surveyed ranked the UNESCO Heritage site that Wordsworth once deemed “the loveliest spot that man hath found” as number one. Glacial ribbon lakes and soaring mountain views give you a clue as to why the driving public (and literary greats) love The Lake District (28%). And there’s much more to the second-ranking location than Tetley and Northern Charm. The Yorkshire Dales (19%) encompasses thousands of miles of moors, valleys and hills – so vast you could hold the world’s most challenging Easter egg hunt there. The Jurassic Coast (18%), taking third place, is a champion among the coastal routes.

Conducted online in March 2024, alongside being asked to rank their top Easter road trip locations, drivers were also quizzed about their best childhood memories, who should sit in the front seat and their top car games, with some intriguing results.

From Snake Pass to the Atlantic Highway, and beyond

Home to Blenheim Palace, rolling hills and honey-hued cottages, it’s no wonder The Cotswolds is a firm favourite. Nearly one in five (17.5%) named it their top road trip location, taking 4th place. Picturesque Somerset beauty spot, Cheddar Gorge, bagged 5th place with 17%.

Moving further up the map to the Midlands, the iconic (and appropriately named) winding road trip route, Snake Pass (16%), is 6th on the list. The Atlantic Highway – rugged and remote – sits in 7th place (14%), with Pembrokeshire Coast 200 in Wales (8th), the New Forest Red Route (9th) and the Road to the Isles in Scotland (10th), completing the top ten.

Memories, games and who sits up front?

Road trips are where memories are made. And for nearly a third of Brits (31%) that means ‘being altogether as a family’, which was voted as the UK’s number one fondest childhood moment. ‘Falling asleep and waking up somewhere new’ (22%), ‘stopping for snacks at the service station’ (13%) and ‘car fun and games’ (12%), were among the other popular moments voted in by drivers.

As any parent will know, keeping the kids entertained is crucial to a harmonious Easter getaway. When asked to rank their family-favourite car games, ‘i-Spy’ came out top trumps with two-fifths of the votes (39%). Other winners included: ‘Red Car-Yellow Car’ (19%), ‘Spot The Licence Plate’ (12%) and ‘The Quiet Game’ (10%).

And while fun and games are all well and good, sometimes car rules (and anti-squabble measures) need to be established before you even set off! Drivers were then asked, ‘Who should sit up front?’

Almost half of UK drivers think ‘parents/the eldest’ should sit in the front seat (49%). ‘The navigator’ (22%), the ‘always travel-sick’ passenger (11%) and the no-nonsense ‘whoever claims it first’ (10%) approach took second, third and fourth rankings.

“Road trips are just as much about the journey as they are the destination.” says Áine Corkery, Manager, UK Brand, Phillips 66 Limited “It’s wonderful to see the UK’s sense of adventure through the lens of these results. As JET is a driver-first brand, committed to getting drivers back on the road safely, facilitating road trips that are full of memories and experiences is important to us – and we can tell from the results that it is to the voting public too!”

<![CDATA[ A Piece of Rarity: The Porsche 911 GT3 RS as Co-Ownership through Supercar Sharing® ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/a-piece-of-rarity-the-porsche-911-gt3-rs-as-co-ownership-through-supercar-sharingr-7fac70edf2f46418d581f6b72d11aebd/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/a-piece-of-rarity-the-porsche-911-gt3-rs-as-co-ownership-through-supercar-sharingr-7fac70edf2f46418d581f6b72d11aebd/ Tuesday 12 March, 2024

For automotive enthusiasts, the Porsche 911 992 GT3 RS is more than just a car - it is a symbol of performance, high engineering and racing history. With the introduction of the latest model, Porsche has once again set new standards, especially in terms of the innovative cooling concept and groundbreaking aerodynamics. However, for many, even esteemed vehicle collectors, this dream remains unfulfilled due to high demand and limited supply.

Supercar Sharing®, a leading provider of sharing and co-ownership programs for vehicle rarities, supercars, and hypercars, has created a solution that allows enthusiasts to realize this dream in a cost-efficient manner. The fractional co-ownership model from Supercar Sharing opens up a world of possibilities for those who are unwilling to pay the full price of over 350.000$ for a Porsche 911 992 GT3 RS Weissach but still want to enjoy the benefits of such a vehicle.

An Innovative System, Unique in Europe

The heart of Supercar Sharing's co-ownership program is the innovative Supercar Co-Ownership System®, which divides the Porsche 911 GT3 RS into 10 shares. Each share corresponds to 10% ownership per one voting right.

Co-owners receive an annual package of kilometers and days of use, as well as full vehicle management, secure and professional vehicle storage, without having to worry about details such as service, maintenance, taxes, and comprehensive insurance. This fully digital system significantly optimizes financial efficiency and offers an attractive alternative to outright purchase, leasing, or long-term rental.

The co-ownership program from Supercar Sharing goes beyond traditional vehicle investment platforms. Unlike these platforms, the Supercar Co-Ownership System® allows co-owners not only to invest in the vehicle but also to actually use it.

While vehicles on traditional investment platforms are often merely seen as investment objects and collect dust in a collection or museum, Supercar Sharing's co-ownership program offers co-owners the opportunity to actively use and enjoy the vehicle. Whether on the racetrack, touring, at exclusive events, or simply on mountain passes and lakeside roads - co-owners can book, drive, and experience the vehicle at their leisure via smartphone.

"Our goal was to develop a program that simplifies access to exclusive vehicles while still offering a first-class experience for every type of vehicle enthusiast," explains Deivis H. Valdes, CEO of Supercar Sharing®. "With our co-ownership model, auto enthusiasts can own a part of a dream car while benefiting from the advantages of a professionally managed vehicle pool and budget conservation."

The co-ownership model appeals to a wide range of customers worldwide, including entrepreneurs who recognize the value of smart investment and utility efficiency, travelers who prefer to co-own rather than rent, as well as expats and collectors who share their passion for luxury cars. With the option to exchange the vehicle for a new comparable model or its successor at the end of the term or receive the residual value of the shares, the program offers a flexible and forward-looking solution for automotive enthusiasts.

The Future of Car Ownership: Co-Ownership as a Sustainable Solution for Automotive Enthusiasts

Looking to the future, it's clear that the co-ownership program, especially given changing market conditions and regulatory developments, will continue to gain importance. By 2035, new combustion engines in Europe will only be allowed in exceptional cases if they can run on e-fuels. This marks a significant change in the automotive industry and sets a clear trend towards emission-free vehicles. This means that traditional engines, like the legendary V12, V10, V8, and the V6 from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, will increasingly disappear from European roads. As a collective association of enthusiasts, Supercar Sharing® has made it its mission to largely preserve this market and keep vehicles in shared ownership for as long as possible.

<![CDATA[ 66% of surveyed drivers wouldn’t consider buying an EV. ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/66-of-surveyed-drivers-wouldnt-consider-buying-an-ev-90cd15ff99f00116adbf034c4a871bb1/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/66-of-surveyed-drivers-wouldnt-consider-buying-an-ev-90cd15ff99f00116adbf034c4a871bb1/ Tuesday 6 February, 2024

Around two-thirds of non-EV drivers say they will still not be switching to an electric car any time soon. A recent survey conducted by Refused Car Finance shows a number of customers said they would not consider buying an electric car as their next vehicle.

Consumers who did not already own an EV were asked whether they would consider an electric car in the future and a vast majority of these surveyed individuals said they would not. Electric cars are heavily promoted to be better for the environment, cheaper to run and improve fuel efficiency but the survey suggests these incentives are not enough for UK drivers to make the switch. The main concerns for this group of drivers were the cost of buying an EV, the mileage capacity of EVs and the availability of charging points in the UK.

When buying a brand-new EV, the cost to buy can be higher than other models as they use newer, more expensive technology and also are produced in smaller numbers. Consumers do however have the ability to spread the cost of an EV with finance (if they are eligible) or there are many second-hand EVs on the market to take advantage of too.

61% of drivers surveyed were concerned about the electric range of EVs and whether they would spend more time recharging their vehicle than driving it. When asked what they thought the average mileage capacity would be for an electric car in 2024, 40% said between 181 and 240 miles, which happens to be pretty accurate. In 2024, the average mileage of an EV is around 211 miles but can be make/model dependent.

Drivers were also worried about the lack of electric car charging points across the UK and not being able to reach a charger before their mileage ran out. Currently, there are over 53,000 charging points available in the UK, but many drivers are still not convinced it is enough. To help encourage more drivers to adopt an EV and reach their 2025 Net Zero target, the UK government aims to have 300,000 charging points in place by 2030.

Out of the customers surveyed who already owned an EV, 66.7% of those said they were happy with their electric car purchase and petrol and diesel options making no sense to them anymore. In their opinion, the biggest selling point of their EV are low running costs, zero emissions and a better driving experience.

The purpose of this survey conducted by the bad credit car finance broker, Refused Car Finance, was to get an idea of how drivers currently feel about buying and owning electric cars. The 2035 petrol and diesel car ban is still a while off, but it's inevitable drivers will have to invest in an electric car at some point in the future. But is it best to buy now and get ahead of the game? This research suggests some UK drivers are still not yet ready to adopt a zero-emission vehicle.

In 2024, the very first Routemaster bus, RM1, will be seventy years old and to commemorate this significant anniversary the Routemaster Association will be staging RM70 a special free event at Chiswick Park in London over the weekend of the 20th and 21st July 2024.

Now mostly in private hands many surviving buses will be attending this family event. Visitors will be able to enjoy free rides on the buses between the event site and the London Transport Museum in Acton and for photographers the event presents a unique photo opportunity with a line-up of 70 Routemasters on display.

Ten years ago in 2014 The Routemaster Association held RM60 in Finsbury Park, this event attracted thousands of visitors. Over 130 Routemasters attended with some buses travelling to the event from Europe.

Chiswick Park was chosen for RM70 due to the site’s historical connection with the Routemaster bus. Before today’s modern business park was built the site was home to one of London Transport’s main bus overhaul works and was famous for being the place where trainee drivers were put through their paces on its impressive skid pan.

NEUSS/LAS VEGAS – January 9, 2024. Yanfeng is setting new standards in design and production with the modular steering wheel concept ClickRim, which is making its debut at the 2024 CES. Whether fabric, leather, artificial leather, or any other wrapped or molded materials – these surface materials of the steering wheel can be individually tailored to meet specific requirements thanks to the changeable segments. This steering wheel is more than just a design feature however, as all components used are also recyclable.

The production of a steering wheel is extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive. It takes approximately 60 minutes on average to manufacture one steering wheel. The wrapping process accounts for most of this production time because traditional steering wheels are wrapped using a complex, manual process. This involves applying a foam coating to the metal skeleton of the steering wheel, followed by bonding a heating mat and finally the wrapping of the surface material. Each and every step, no matter how small, requires precise manual processing.

From manual production to a fully automated process
The ClickRim modular steering wheel concept involves the development of individual segments or half shells that are clipped onto the steering wheel rim and connected to each other. Anything is possible – whether there are two, three or four shells, alternating between wood and leather, fabric or natural fibers. The highlight: all of the lighting and hands-off detection functions, as well as the heating mat, are pre-assembled and integrated directly into the shells.

Yanfeng has made this possible through a new manufacturing process that combines two production steps. The company has developed a process in which the shells are wrapped fully automatically with spacer fabrics and leather. The injection-molded part is already wrapped with the spacer fabric and fitted with the heating mat. The automaker's logo or the vehicle model branding can also be integrated directly into the shell during the wrapping process. The decorative or connecting seams on the steering wheel cover are no longer required – but could be added if required.

The overall complexity of the steering wheel product scope is also significantly reduced.

“Our new automated wrapping process allows us to save around two-thirds of the conventional production time for each steering wheel while maintaining efficient costs,” said Patrick Nebout, Chief Technology Officer at Yanfeng Technology.
The company's innovation team worked cross-functionally across Germany, North America and China on the development of the concept for this new, modular steering wheel.
“Through the cross-business unit collaboration between our interior, electronics and passive safety product departments, we are able to rethink and reorganize processes,” added Nebout.

ClickRim is part of Yanfeng's Circular Steering Wheel
Recycling and maintenance of steering wheels has previously been somewhat complex. Thanks to the modular design of the new steering wheel, the individual components can be disassembled easily and returned to the material cycle. The metal armature, the spacer fabrics as well as the surface materials used can all be recycled.

“With each new development, we are faced with the challenge of taking a holistic view of a product's life cycle – from the product design to the manufacture and use of the product at the end of its life, right through to the return of individual materials into the cycle,” Nebout said.

The use of spacer fabrics instead of conventional foam in the wrapping process for steering wheels will enable Yanfeng to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.0 kg per steering wheel.

The new steering wheel has passed all standard prototype tests, including head impact and body block tests. ClickRim is aimed at the premium and mid-range segment.

This close-to-series concept development is ready to be used in the next generation of vehicles in model year 2025.

James Foster is a connoisseur of high-end alcoholic beverages who has facilitated luxury spirit ageing programs for high-net-worth individuals and companies for many years. He is also the founder of Luxury Spirit Partners (LSP) in France. LSP focuses on a market that has been kept secret by HNWs and institutions: Brandy.

With many companies already operating in the whisky and wine markets for retail investors across the globe, James has identified a gap in the market for aged limited-run Brandy. He has, therefore, set up a network of contacts in the Brandy ageing business and has partnered with a large distillery in the Cognac region of France to produce, distil, and age his latest alcoholic adventure.

LSP offers individuals the opportunity to purchase their own Brandy and become partners with them. The Brandy will be fully managed by LSP and sold on behalf of the individual after a 5-year ageing period. Partners can expect to earn between 9% and 14% per annum for their Brandy ageing investment.

If you're interested in learning more about this opportunity or the company involved, please feel free to email them directly at info@luxuryspiritpartners.com.

<![CDATA[ 8% of Brits in transport poverty - Lift-sharing saves £1034 a year ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/8-of-brits-in-transport-poverty-lift-sharing-saves-1034-a-year-4c16bec97db352fe3506f8f509e3a900/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/8-of-brits-in-transport-poverty-lift-sharing-saves-1034-a-year-4c16bec97db352fe3506f8f509e3a900/ Monday 20 November, 2023

New data from the Social Market Foundation (SMF) shows that 5 million people (8% of the British population) are being driven into poverty by transport costs.

Cars are the most expensive mode of transport, with the report stating that car usage costs the median British household over £5,650 per year. There are often limited alternatives though, particularly in rural areas, with people being forced into expensive car ownership by an absence of dependable and affordable public transport.

The SMF gives some long-term recommendations on how to tackle transport poverty, but according to other specialists there is a way of dramatically reducing driving costs now. And it’s something that’s on the increase in the UK - lift-sharing. The UK & Ireland’s largest car-sharing platform, Liftshare, has calculated that its members save an average of £1034 each per year.

Recently released Commuter Census data from Mobilityways found that, out of 7,439 survey respondents, the biggest year on year increase in commuting mode is car sharing. Travelling by car alone remains the most common mode of transport for the commute, so it’s clear that many more people could be cutting their costs by switching to car sharing. This year, 43% of Commuter Census respondents travelled to work by car alone, and a further 4% by car alone EV (Electric Vehicle). Combined, this is an increase from the single-occupancy commute levels recorded in the Government’s 2021 Census, which saw 45.1% of commuters driving to work in a car or van.

Mobilityways consultant commutologist, Millie Botting, comments, “There is, however, an indication that people are starting to move away from driving alone, to more affordable and sustainable modes of transport.” This year’s Commuter Census shows that people are returning to the workplace more, with a drop in ‘I usually Work from Home’ from 16% in 2022 to just 4% in 2023. Millie Botting continues, “As people travel more for work again, their modes are changing, with car sharing up 5% year-on-year. Plus, there are more people using almost all forms of public transport, including train, bus and tube.”

This rise in car-sharing is mirrored by Liftshare’s recent announcement of an 80% YOY increase in the number of people sharing through the journey matching platform in September, and a record-breaking summer, with double the usual numbers joining Liftshare
in July and August this year.

Liftshare Community Manager, Amy Young, comments “The increasingly prohibitive cost of car ownership is certainly a factor in the number of additional people trying lift-sharing. Drivers can cut the cost of their journey by half, or more if they take extra passengers. But we also hear from our members that they enjoy helping others get from A to B more affordably and conveniently. For those who don’t drive, it can be the case that public transport is too expensive or not feasible where they live.”

As a social enterprise, Liftshare offers its platform free of charge to members of the public. People can join as a driver or passenger, and add a journey for their regular or shift commute, as well as for one-off trips. Liftshare displays a suggested contribution against each journey, with payment being arranged between sharers. Or for regular journeys where more than one sharer drives, they can take it in turns driving, which also reduces the stress and tiredness of the commute. To find out how much you could save by lift-sharing, try the Liftshare Savings Calculator.

Here’s why the Algarve Race Apartments complex offers a rare opportunity to combine a passion for motorsports with the fabulous Portuguese lifestyle.

A one-of-a-kind location combined with attractive prices make apartments at a new complex beside Portugal’s Formula 1 racetrack one of the most attractive investment opportunities in the Algarve today, said exclusive promoter of the project Ideal Homes Portugal in October.

The key-ready Algarve Race Apartments complex offers a rare opportunity for investors to secure a fully managed, income-producing property situated just a few hundred metres from Portugal’s famous Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) racetrack near Portimão. With prices starting at just €175,000 for a one-bedroom unit, owners can benefit from strong returns by entering their property into the on-site rental scheme, keeping a set number of days each year for their own personal use.

Easy finance and no extra costsThanks to its proven rental audience, leveraging an investment at Algarve Race Apartments could make perfect sense. Ideal Homes Portugal’s mortgage team have access to competitive products with foreign investors required to put down just 30 per cent as a deposit, giving them access to mortgage rates of around 3.5 per cent with a five-year term or longer. A €3,000 holding deposit is needed to reserve an apartment.

Five-star hotel statusAlgarve Race Apartments operates alongside the five-star Algarve Race Resort hotel, situated next door. Residents of the apartments have access to the hotel’s facilities, which include a restaurant and two bars, large terrace, spa and gym, indoor and outdoor pools, games room and Kids Club, as well as smart corporate facilities.

Coast, clubhouse and countrysideThe AIA and Algarve Race Apartments sit in a rural area called Mexilhoeira Grande, with the pretty Monchique Mountains as a backdrop. Despite this natural setting, which offers scenic trails, horse-riding and mountain-biking, the beach resorts and tourist amenities of the Western Algarve are still very close. The historic marina cities of Lagos and Portimão are both around 15-20 minutes’ drive, the nearest beaches at Meia Praia and Praia da Rocha are around 25 minutes away and equally accessible are golf clubs at Penina, Alamos, Boavista and Morgado.

Breaking records! The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) was the busiest it has ever been in 2022, when it achieved ‘customer occupancy’ of 355 days. This included 24 national and international championship races and 23 days of corporate events, all of which helped it attract more than a million visitors. The year of its 15th anniversary, so far 2023 has been equally successful and 2024 is lining up to be just as busy.

In March this year, the racetrack hosted the opening race of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship, in April FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and International GT Open races were held there, at the end of June the FIM JuniorGP World Championship excited crowds and this autumn competitors in the FIM Superbike World Championship and European Le Mans Series are setting the track alight! Not forgetting the pro-karting races and Algarve Classic Festival at the end of October.

An exciting question on many people’s minds is when will Formula 1 return to Portimão? The AIA hosted the Portuguese Grand Prix in 2020, after a 25-year break in the country, and then in 2021. The circuit came within a whisker of hosting Formula 1 racing again this year after the Chinese GP was cancelled in December (due to Covid). Portugal was momentarily in the running as a replacement but organisers decided to drop the date from the F1 calendar altogether. Watch that space!

Experience it for yourself!Visitors who feel inspired are invited to test the track for themselves, by taking part in one of the various driving experiences on offer. There are corporate packages available too, while the AIA’s own driving school can provide courses with qualified instructors.

The AIA is also home to the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve (KIA), one of Europe’s largest go-kart tracks. Then there are the three off-road tracks where all types of off-terrain vehicles, including SUVs, rally cars and motorbikes can be hired for private or corporate use.

Starting prices at the Algarve Race Apartments, which come fully furnished and ready for occupancy, are €175,000 for a one-bedroom unit, €209,000 for a two-bedroom and €235,000 for a three-bedroom. Sole promoter of the complex is Ideal Homes Portugal (www.idealhomesportugal.com).

3 in 4 drivers in the UK are regularly putting themselves and other drivers at risk by not regularly checking their tyre pressure.

That’s according to exclusive data from UK auto firm Swansway Motor Group, who shared the figures to shed light on the need for increased tyre safety awareness.

“It’s alarming to discover that so many of us place so much trust into tyres we don’t check often enough”, Matt Springhall, Aftersales Director at Swansway Motor Group, noted.

As the primary touchpoint between car and tarmac, tyres ensure vehicle control, stability, and safety. When properly maintained, they enable effective acceleration and manoeuvring.

Neglected tyres, however, whether under-inflated, worn out, or damaged, can lead to skidding, longer stopping distances, or even blowouts - especially at higher speeds.

“Every time we drive, our safety, as well as that of others on the road, is at stake”, Springhall added. “We must prioritise tyre health not as an afterthought, but as a fundamental part of our driving routine.”

An easily fixable problem

Despite the critical importance of tyres, nearly 1 in 10 drivers (9%) never check their tyre pressure, a sobering figure that only amplifies the need for awareness amongst UK drivers.

Fortunately, tyre maintenance is straightforward and accessible. While 23% of respondents check their tyres monthly, all drivers can easily incorporate regular tyre checks into their routine.

For example, most petrol stations across the country come with air pumps and pressure gauges, making it simple for drivers to address any issues they may find. And when it comes to checking tyre tread, it can be as simple as using a 20 pence coin.

Knowledge is power

Springhall encourages all drivers, saying, “Knowledge is power this Tyre Safety Month. Let’s all take a moment to appreciate and check the unsung heroes of our cars. Just a few minutes of attention can ensure safer journeys for all.”

Key highlights of the research:

75% of UK drivers don’t check their tyre pressure enough 1 in 10 admit to never checking their tyre pressure at allOver 10% of people admit to never checking tyre tread

Head over to the Swansway Motor Group website for more information about their Tyre Safety Survey results.

<![CDATA[ 80% More People Lift-Sharing, Despite Rishi Sunak’s Carpool U-turn ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/80-more-people-lift-sharing-despite-rishi-sunaks-carpool-u-turn-ba37ff72f1613a0500753ff16a84c75d/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/80-more-people-lift-sharing-despite-rishi-sunaks-carpool-u-turn-ba37ff72f1613a0500753ff16a84c75d/ Tuesday 3 October, 2023

As the prime minister announced his rollback of net zero pledges, including cancelling a compulsory car-pooling policy that never existed, it’s doubtful he even knew it was National Liftshare Week. The week, that is spearheaded each year by the UK & Ireland’s largest car-sharing platform, Liftshare, aims to get more people sharing rides. Despite the negative attention brought on car-pooling by the PM, that’s exactly what it did – with an 80% uptick in liftsharers across September this year.

National Liftshare Week, which ran from 18-24th
September, also saw a 60% increase in journeys added to the Liftshare platform. The week was backed by promotional activity from Liftshare, its Mobilityways group clients and local community groups involved in liftsharing.

This tops off an already record-breaking year for numbers of people liftsharing. Mobilityways managing director Julie Furnell recently commented: “We are celebrating our silver jubilee year, saving 1 billion miles from UK roads and our best ever summer for new Liftshare members, all without mandatory policies from the Government.”

This was in reference to a record-breaking summer for new Liftshare members. 23,000 people joined the platform across July and August, which is double the same period last year. In fact, in the first nine months of 2023 the same number of people joined Liftshare as in the whole of 2022.

The boost in Liftshare members is thanks to Liftshare teaming up with Esso on their Thoughtful Driving campaign, encouraging people to take one less journey. As part of the initiative, Esso is helping to increase Liftshare’s exposure to get more people sharing.

As a social enterprise, Liftshare offers its journey-matching service free of charge to members of the public. Liftshare community manager, Amy Young, says: “People use Liftshare for multiple reasons – to have company on their journey and do their bit for the environment. Drivers want to split the cost of fuel, plus many enjoy helping others get from A to B more affordably and conveniently. For those who don’t drive, it can be the case that public transport is too expensive or not feasible where they live.”

<![CDATA[ Why now is the time to try Lift-sharing ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/why-now-is-the-time-to-try-lift-sharing-507bd5e1c6248ab02dc69df28484ba6f/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/why-now-is-the-time-to-try-lift-sharing-507bd5e1c6248ab02dc69df28484ba6f/ Thursday 7 September, 2023

More people than ever are giving lift-sharing a go, according to Liftshare. This summer was a record-breaking one for new Liftshare members, with over 23,000 joining the lift-sharing platform across July and August. That’s four times the amount of the same period last year, due to Liftshare’s recent collaboration with Esso.

As a social enterprise, Liftshare (which is this year celebrating its Silver Jubilee) offers its journey-matching service completely free of charge to members of the public, predominantly across the UK and Ireland. With the recent spike in members and journeys added, now is a great time to find someone going your way.

National Liftshare Week is also coming up on 18-24th
September, which is traditionally a time when more people get involved in sharing lifts and taking cars off the road. During Liftshare Week last year, Liftshare saw three times the usual number of sharers, and savings of £393,343, over 1.3 million miles and almost 300 tonnes of CO2.

Liftshare community manager Amy Young says “The boost in Liftshare members is thanks to our recent work with Esso, encouraging more people to Liftshare for their commutes and to events this summer. Esso awarded new and existing Liftshare members with bonus Nectar points and promoted the initiative with an advertising campaign. Liftshare turned 25 years old this August and this bumper summer for members has given us further reason to celebrate.”

Amy Young continues, “We identified through the Commuter Census that incentives play a key factor in encouraging people to choose a more sustainable mode of transport. People are keen to do their bit for the environment but only if it’s also affordable, and lift-sharing covers both bases.”

All Liftshare members, including new sign-ups, can claim 500 Nectar points on their next purchase at participating Esso service stations – fuel or shop – up until 4th
October. Liftshare has teamed up with Esso on their Thoughtful Driving Initiative, which provides help on how to fill up with less impact, drive more economically and make one less car journey. As part of the initiative, Esso is helping to increase Liftshare’s exposure to get more people sharing.

Amy Young concludes, “This isn’t a one-off campaign, we’ll be working closely with Esso on more projects to raise Liftshare’s profile and bring extra benefits to members. Plus, as part of National Liftshare week 2023, Liftshare is also running a member competition. We’re giving away £100 Love2shop vouchers each for 5 lucky members between 11th to 30th September. To be entered, all they need to do is add or update their Liftshare journey.”

<![CDATA[ The Future of Cooling is Solid-State - New Market Research on Solid State Cooling 2024-2044 ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/the-future-of-cooling-is-solid-state-new-market-research-on-solid-state-cooling-2024-2044-a1da3ae38551c103729cb0a29c3135f3/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/the-future-of-cooling-is-solid-state-new-market-research-on-solid-state-cooling-2024-2044-a1da3ae38551c103729cb0a29c3135f3/ Tuesday 5 September, 2023

The market for solid state cooling will more than triple to over $100 billion by 2044, providing many ways to create a billion-dollar business in this sector. Uniquely, the Zhar Research report, “Solid State Cooling Markets 2024-2044” (326 pages) has the full analysis, fully up-to-date. Older reports are useless because this subject is advancing rapidly.

Future cooling will increasingly be solid-state. Imagine multi-mode and multi-functional materials using multilayered solids and structural electronics like your mobile phone and much of your electric car. This will mainly be a world of benign, affordable materials such as silicone, silica, boron nitride, alumina, titania and polyethylene variants but often in sophisticated forms such as aerogels, nanocomposites, photonics and metamaterials. Complex chemistry too – a major opportunity for your skills, with less risk of commoditisation. Just as your phone replaces many things, solid-state cooling may reverse as heating or provide sensing, electricity, electronic drape function and more. Increasingly it will vanish into your roof, window, car body etc. Learn how some versions are even transparent, enabling invisible retrofit and use in glass buildings. Mostly, they will cause less or no undesirable heating of your city because they will be more efficient or unpowered “passive”. There will be very little to go wrong in contrast to so much cooling today that relies on plumbing, liquids and gases including undesirable refrigerants.

Some of the new insights and data in the report include:

Maturity curves 4New infograms 25Background forecasts 3New SWOT appraisals 11Acquisition opportunities over 6Companies mentioned 121+ worldwidePartnership opportunities and best researchOngoing updates so you get the latest developmentsNew solid-state cooling forecasts 2024-2044 in 24 linesDetailed roadmaps 2024-2044 in two lines and two pagesData and insights for you to create a billion-dollar businessMany promising applications and gaps in the market identifiedDetailed appraisal of research pipeline with much further readingPhD level analysis revealing winners, losers, main materials of interestEmphasis on research and company progress is particularly 2023 onwards

The “Executive summary and conclusions” at 39 pages is sufficient for those with limited time as it uses prolific new graphics, SWOT appraisals, infograms to reveal the market and technology dynamics, potential acquisitions and partnerships and the detailed road ahead 2024-2044 in many forecasts and a roadmap by year. The emphasis is commercial, particularly focussing on opportunities for added-value materials and devices but with many of latest research reports recommended for further reading throughout the report.

Chapter 2 Introduction takes 25 pages to introduce how cooling needs will increase for many reasons, growing problems and new solutions when cooling buildings and how problems are becoming severe with traditional cooling inadequate. It gives the overview of solid-state passive cooling for buildings and cooling windows and greenhouses. Learn air conditioner alternatives that are lower power, greener, more affordable and see comparison of traditional and emerging refrigeration technologies with NEOM smart city The Line in Saudi Arabia as an emerging example.

Understand the major new cooling opportunities in electronics and ICT with new SWOT appraisal of 6G Communications thermal material opportunities. See how cooling various forms of solar power: solar panels, photovoltaic cladding etc. and large battery thermal management become important plus electric vehicles land, water and air creating major new needs for thermal management.

The fins on your electronics and your car radiator cool mainly by forced and natural convection not radiation. However, paradoxically, reinvented radiative cooling is one of the most significant new trends. Chapter 3 puts all that together with a full 50 pages of, “Radiative and heat sink radiative/ convective cooling, passive liquid cooling: emerging materials and devices toolkit 2023-2043” given its huge potential. A maturity curve of radiative cooling technologies give technology readiness of each. This chapter explains the future of heat sinks and radiators and traditional and emerging radiative cooling. A major focus is Passive Daytime Radiative Cooling PDRC with its startup, massive research pipeline, materials opportunities and SWOT. See the fundamental and addressable limitations because this is data-based analysis not evangelism. The rest of the chapter analyses other emerging forms of radiative cooling, including tailorable-emittance coatings, paints, tapes, thermal louvers and ,particularly, tuned radiative cooling using both sides by Janus emitter JET. Then comes self-adaptive radiative cooling based on phase change materials and a SWOT appraisal of passive radiative cooling in general.

Chapter 4 (45 pages) is “Thermal Interface Materials and other emerging materials and devices for conductive cooling”. It spans the familiar world of thermal conductors at interfaces and for spreading and removing heat. The TIM analysis is thorough, embracing manufacturer lists and initiatives, next materials, formats, morphologies micro to industrial. See the explanation of why there is a modest trend away from filling large gaps so thermal film and adhesives come to the fore but many other forms have a future. Seven current options are compared against nine parameters. The silicone SWOT explains why there is some trend to more use of advanced graphite, graphene and sophisticated thermally-conducting polymers as thermal conductors but silicones have a great future. Indeed, silicone-based solid-state cooling, in its huge variety of forms, dominates the research pipeline and company initiatives taken together in the report as a whole. In this chapter, both electrically-conducting and electrically insulating thermal conductors are in the frame. A large section addresses important considerations when solving thermal challenges with conductive materials. Thermally conductive carbon-based polymers are appraised against targetted features and applications and there is more.

Chapter 5. “Solid-state caloric cooling” is considered by Zhar Research to be very promising so it takes a full 57 pages to make sense of the frenzy of new research, the start of commercialisation and the potential applications. Three SWOT appraisals and sections on electrocaloric, magnetocaloric, elastocaloric and barocaloric options with a nod to the less-important twistocalorics. The multicaloric option follows. See why some of the options are non-starters on basic principles and other could be improved to the point of appearing in vast areas on buildings and maybe vehicles, despite being affected by weather. How does the best shape up against the older technology called thermoelectrics? Both are part of the strong trend from plumbing, liquids and gases to smart materials that is also seen with electricity production and batteries.

Could you have greenhouse glass that cools? Could you have a lens that concentrates sunlight not to set fire to something but to cool? Researchers say you can and Chapter 6. “Metamaterial and other advanced photonic cooling: emerging materials and devices” takes 32 pages to explain how this magic can mean big business. What materials, applications, timescales, best research papers, commercial initiatives, lessons of success and failure, three SWOT appraisals? It is all here, including metafabrics with such radiative and reflective cooling and a close look at why Anti-Stokes fluorescence is newly commercialised with considerable potential.

Thermoelectric cooling is solid-state but after a very long time it is still unusual to find someone selling $100 million yearly of it. Why bother to discuss it in this report? Well, it is being reinvented to escape rare toxic materials and become affordable and suitable for large areas. How about thermal locking by ferrons or spin-driven thermoelectrics? Metal organic framework thermoelectrics? Already, thermoelectrics can be lower cost than alternatives where precise temperature control is vital or strong cooling of small areas is needed, as required by the 1kW microprocessors expected soon. The 31 pages of Chapter7. “Thermoelectric cooling reinvented” explain, give a SWOT and predictions.

You cannot read this report without realising that is not just your car window that is multi-purpose (block the sun, antenna, demister). Cooling is firmly headed the same way, including car windows that also cool using several physical principles. Chapter 8. “Multi–mode and multi-purpose integrated cooling involving solid-state” closes the report with many examples to come. Expect solid-state cooling that desalinates water, captures useful amounts from the air. What startup offers solid-state reflective and radiative cooling smart material for aircon and refrigeration? There is load-bearing thermal insulation and active cooling material and a great deal more on the horizon. The report emphasises clarity with a glossary and terms explained in the text.

London, UK, 17 August 2023 -- Jackery, a global leader in innovative portable power and green energy solutions has announced its partnership with Berlin-based company PlugVan, who supply sustainable units to the UK and across Europe, transforming traditional panel vans into fully-fledged camper vans in just five minutes, with the Jackery PowerStation aboard to supply reliable green energy.

The PlugVan module instantly transforms most panel vans into a campervan, a mobile workshop, a goods transporter, or a mobile office and back again. The conversion takes only five minutes and can be done by one person by simply sliding the unit into the loading area and lashing it down, without any changes to the base vehicle. A Jackery unit is integrated into the PlugVan module, providing sufficient energy for built-in electronics such as lamps and water pumps as well as external components including laptops and coolers.

Ricky Ma, Head of EMEA, Jackery said:

“We are delighted to work with PlugVan, providing reliable energy to those looking to convert their existing panel van. Jackery provides sustainable, green energy on the go and PlugVan customers can now power their camper or office modules as they travel.”

Florian Fey, Managing Director of PlugVan, added:

“The power stations can be purchased for each module, the residential module, the workshop module, and the office module - there are no limits. In addition, we also offer the matching Jackery solar panels for charging the Jackery units, harnessing the power of the sun.”

Behind the doors of the van are benches that can be converted into a bed, a multifunctional table, numerous drawers for luggage, a dishwasher, and a gas cooker. It can be used as a mobile workshop, a mobile office, or a logistics solution in addition to a campervan.

PlugVan offers the following models: Explorer 500 and Explorer 1000 with capacities of 518 Wh and 1002 Wh respectively, which are characterised by low weight and a service life of up to 20 years. Since they are whisper-quiet during operation, they can also be used in the converted campervan throughout the night.

The combination of a converted van and the Jackery units not only meet all requirements for comfort and flexibility, but it also offers a high level of sustainability. While the versatility of the delivery van means that it can be used for several purposes and prevents numerous vehicles from having to be purchased, Jackery’s power stations can be charged by harnessing the power of the sun with solar panels.

New test equipment for comprehensive testing of automotive safety components

Neuss, Germany – 20 July 2023. Yanfeng, a leading global automotive supplier, has recently expanded its research and development activities in Europe. The new equipment is part of its Technical Center in Trenčín, Slovakia, and focuses on the company’s Safety Systems business. It complements the existing interiors product portfolio and testing capabilities at the site. With this investment in new equipment and technologies, Yanfeng extends its passive safety component development and testing capabilities outside of China.

The new test stations are for the testing of steering wheels and airbag modules.
The company has invested around 2.5 million Euros in the state-of-the-art equipment. These include a mechanical shock test station as well as a drop tester, inflator deployment test machine, an additional climate chamber, a salt spray chamber and also a dust test station, which uses fine dust from the Arizona desert. A new temperature shock tester, an airbag test center and a robot test system have also been installed.

“Airbag modules and steering wheels are crucial for driver and passenger safety. This applies both to airbags, which only work once, as well as steering wheels, which must function continuously every day,” explained Ivan Kebísek, Engineering Director and Site Leader of the Yanfeng Technical Center in Trenčín. “This means that our products must fulfill the highest quality standards and work perfectly.”

“Yanfeng is the only automotive supplier that offers in-house passive safety solutions and interior integration from a single source,” said Francois Stouvenot, CEO EMEA and NA at Yanfeng Automotive Interiors. “With our extensive expertise in interiors, seating, and passive safety, we are able to develop holistic interior solutions with seamlessly integrated safety systems.”

The company’s safety technology ranges from a smart steering wheel, that warns drivers through visual signals or vibrations if they unexpectedly stray from their lane, to seating systems with automatic seat belt tightening, restraint systems and airbags.

A global Engineering network to better serve the customers
Over the past few years, Yanfeng has been increasing its development and testing capabilities for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in Trenčín. Since 2017 the company has invested continuously in additional testing equipment. The Trenčín Technical Center is one of two major European research and development sites in Yanfeng’s global engineering network. It supports the Tech Center at the company’s European Headquarters in Neuss, Germany, with environmental, functional, durability and material tests for automotive interior components and products, including instrument panels, cockpits, door panels and floor consoles. The testing has recently been extended to include the passive safety portfolio.

“The Technical Center in Trenčín is one of 12 locations in our global engineering network, and it has a vital role in our research and development activities,” said Francois Stouvenot. “The investment in this new safety test equipment enables us to enhance our capabilities and further support our customers locally.”

<![CDATA[ LAKE DISTRICT VOTED UK’S HAPPIEST ROAD TRIP ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/lake-district-voted-uks-happiest-road-trip-bc60e8da91a93cf10dff09a279dabb79/ https://pressat.co.uk/releases/lake-district-voted-uks-happiest-road-trip-bc60e8da91a93cf10dff09a279dabb79/ Tuesday 11 July, 2023

The Lake District, Devon to Cornwall and the Peak District have been named as the UK’s happiest road trips in a new poll conducted by leading fuel brand – JET.

One of the most beautiful and beguiling parts of the country the Lake District is where happy driving memories are made. 33% of UK drivers cited the National Park as their happiest road trip with the breath-taking, coast-hugging, Devon to Cornwall drive taking second spot and the brooding, dramatic Peak District putting a smile on driver’s faces – taking the third spot.

Conducted online in June 2023, 2000 UK drivers were asked to take a trip down memory lane and vote for the road trips they have the happiest memories of. They were also asked to define what it is about those trips that makes them happy and how driving makes them feel.

Stonehenge, Norfolk Coast and Waterloo Bridge

The Kinks sang about it, Michael Caine as Alfie walked across it, Matt Smith as Doctor Who drove a scooter across it and the poet Wendy Cope famously wrote about falling in love on it. The drive across Waterloo Bridge, an iconic stretch spanning the Thames and connecting the South Bank with Aldwych and the Strand, is officially memorable with 10% of drivers citing the iconic London bridge as one of the UK’s happiest road trips - making the top 10 in 8th place.

Stonehenge, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, that never fails to intrigue and excite (as well as slowing down the traffic on the A303 as drivers steal a glance of the majestic stones) has been voted the UK’s 4th happiest road trip with the wildly romantic Norfolk Coast
continuing to bring joy to UK drivers - taking the 7th spot.

The rest of the top ten is made up of the North Yorkshire Moors/Road to Whitby (5th); the Scottish Borders between Northumberland and Edinburgh (6th); Cotswolds roads (9th) with the beautifully rugged Snowdonia to Anglesey road trip eliciting happy memories and bagging the 10th spot.

Freedom, deep-and-meaningfuls and being a ‘passenger Princess’…

The poll has revealed that 52% of UK drivers experience feelings of happiness and joy with ‘driving through beautiful scenery’ (56%) and ‘a feeling of freedom’ (44%) identified as the top two factors for making driving a happy, pleasurable experience. Other happy-inducing factors include ‘listening to your favourite road trip playlist’ (37%); having uninterrupted ‘deep-and-meaningfuls’ with a partner/family/friends (28%); 'singing like noone is watching' (27%) and (although not strictly from a driver’s perspective) being a ‘passenger princess’ - which polled 17% of the votes.

The joy of driving and mental clarity

When asked to explain the emotions experienced while on a favourite road trip - UK drivers were surprisingly candid about sharing their feelings.

Alongside happiness (the top response taking 52% of the votes), just under half (45%) said that they experience feelings of ‘calm and contentment’ with 42% experiencing ‘excitement’ and one-quarter of UK drivers identifying a feeling of ‘mental clarity’ (23%). Other emotions cited by the 2000 drivers polled included: ‘love’ (26%); ‘nostalgia’ (22%) and ‘empowerment’ (18%).

“At JET, we are all about facilitating and celebrating the joy of driving - and it’s gratifying to see how many UK drivers derive genuine happiness from taking to the road.” says Áine Corkery, Manager, UK Brand, Phillips 66 Limited “We have an array of beautiful and spectacular road trips in the UK - ranging from iconic urban bridges through to wild coastal drives and glorious lakes - and as a driver-first company we look forward to being a part of this summer’s road trip adventures and the making of new memories.”

The UK’s Top 10 Happiest Road Trips:

Lake District (33%)Devon to Cornwall (25%)Peak District (18%)Stone Henge / Cotswolds (14%)North Yorkshire Moors / Road to Whitby (12%)Scottish Borders between Northumberland and Edinburgh (12%)Norfolk Coast (10%)Waterloo Bridge, Central London (10%)Cotswolds Roads (10%)Snowdonia to Anglesey (9%)

The Top 10 Things People Love About Driving:

Taking in beautiful scenery (56%)The feeling of freedom (you could drive anywhere) (44%)Listening to your favourite road trip playlist (37%)Me-time / getting away from it all on your own (30%)Having deep & meaningfuls with your partner, family, friends with no interruptions (28%)Singing like no one’s watching (Carpool Karaoke) (27%)Tuning into your favourite radio show, podcast or audiobook (18%)Being a “passenger princess” (17%)Imagining you’re in a road trip movie (11%)Role-playing your own Dessert Island Discs (7%)

The UK’s Top 10 Driving Emotions:

The research was conducted online in June 2023 by 3Gem Research among 2000 UK drivers, 18+ and nationally representative.

In Italy at the famous Monza racetrack, AEHRA presented its second model in a world premiere in front of 60 thousand people

Milan, Italy - A charming, elegant, sporty car. An expression of "Italian luxury," refined, minimalist, rooted in the great tradition of Made in Italy design. A sedan with sinuous lines, without edges, "forged" by the air. A "symphony" of technological innovation, great performance, Italian-ness and beauty. It is the new AEHRA-branded Sedan - the Italian automaker - which was revealed in a world premiere at MIMO, at the Monza racetrack, in front of 60 thousand people that will be in production from 2025.

"The Sedan, just like the SUV, unveiled eight months ago, is pure innovation," says Hazim Nada, Co-founder and President of AEHRA. "We had the audacity and courage to break every limit, taking advantage of the most advanced technologies that the global automotive and aviation industries make available. The new sedan continues AEHRA's strategic mission: to bring to the road the best expression of Italian design ever seen in the EV world."

The car looks like an unbroken line where edges are almost absent, strong with a play of light and shadow that sculpts its appearance. An interplay of light and shadow that sculpts its appearance. A very fluid line, almost like that of an airplane to the point that it seems to glide through the air effortlessly with great efficiency, even when stationary. Distinctive elements include the double-hawk aperture and 7-spoke wheels for the sedan that recall the image of a turbine, with a carbon application that promotes clean flow to ensure greater aerodynamics.

"To design the car we drew heavily from the artistic tradition of our peninsula. No ostentation but only the sense of refined luxury expression of harmonic beauty”. Thoughts and words of Filippo Perini Chief Design Officer of AEHRA with a long past in iconic car manufacturers such as Lamborghini.

Domestic recycling is thankfully second nature in most economically developed nations, but cars are complicated and potentially environmentally dangerous items – even more so with the advent of electric vehicles. Many people are still unaware that every car can be effectively recycled, which is why we believe there is an urgent need for Global Car Recycling Day.

This new, vital awareness day is driven by international car recycling experts CarTakeBack. The company's Business Development Manager, Alison Price, had this to say:

"Establishing responsible car recycling networks across the globe, after meeting the UK and EU's tough environmental standards and 95% recycling rates, has revealed the pressing need for this campaign. While many countries love their cars, and are increasingly environmentally aware, at the end of a vehicle’s life the right choices are not always clear or indeed available.

To avoid environmental harm and to ensure the protection of sustainable car production into the future, it’s essential that car recycling regulations are improved internationally. The public can help to drive that progress by demanding an environmentally responsible route for the disposal of their old car.

We're looking forward to raising awareness through Global Car Recycling Day and working with organisations and individuals worldwide to maximise its effect."

To maintain the world's most popular form of travel, while protecting our environment and supporting sustainable car production, it is now crucial to raise awareness of the importance of responsible car recycling.
