<![CDATA[ Revealed: The best and worst European countries to drive in ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/revealed-the-best-and-worst-european-countries-to-drive-in-62d16209f275edab33d002460cfdbc04 https://pressat.co.uk/releases/revealed-the-best-and-worst-european-countries-to-drive-in-62d16209f275edab33d002460cfdbc04 Wednesday 28 August, 2019

The team at Dayinsure combined multiple data sets including road fatalities per 100,000 people, quality of the roads, vehicles per 1,000 people, maximum speed, road length and cost of petrol to determine the best European countries to drive in. Excluding a small number for which full data was unavailable.

Iceland has ranked as the worst country to drive in
in Europe, due to it having the most vehicles per 1,000 people, indicating busy roads and the second-highest petrol costs. It also finished in the middle of the table for factors such as safety and quality of road.

On the other hand, Germany ranked first as the best European country to drive in. Its Autobahn allowed it to top the highest maximum speed category, but it also finished in the top 10 for safety and quality road and the top 5 for road length.

The United Kingdom placed 16th, coming out just above halfway in the ranking of 37 countries. While the UK is the 4th
safest country to drive in regarding estimated road fatalities, it fell short in categories such as average petrol cost and the number of vehicles per 1,000 people.

Dayinsure’s team had this to say “Road trips in Europe are always an attractive prospect but finding out exactly which countries are the best to drive in can be hard as there are so many contributing factors to consider. Our latest research worked to uncover which country comes out on top when considering a wide range of information helping drivers across the continent to make informed decisions about where to enjoy their next road trip.”

<![CDATA[ V12 VEHICLE FINANCE FLIES WITH ‘SOAR’ TO REVOLUTIONISE WHOLESALE-FUNDED STOCK AUDITS ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/v12-vehicle-finance-flies-with-soar-to-revolutionise-wholesale-funded-stock-audits-6733d9260a25abed18f9b107dbf69b11 https://pressat.co.uk/releases/v12-vehicle-finance-flies-with-soar-to-revolutionise-wholesale-funded-stock-audits-6733d9260a25abed18f9b107dbf69b11 Wednesday 14 August, 2019

Dublin, Ireland – 14th August 2019:
Recently launched V12 Vehicle Finance, a business division of Secure Trust Bank, has partnered with LUMINOSITY Ltd. to implement SOAR_inventory, the NFC and Cloud-based ‘self‐auditing’ risk and inventory management solution. Working in tandem with a traditional stock auditing model, SOAR enables their Dealer Network to securely self‐audit wholesale-funded inventory.

SOAR delivers a verifiable physical ‘hand on bonnet’ audit digitally for each and every vehicle checked. With this hybrid stock audit solution, V12 Vehicle Finance will significantly augment their overall risk and inventory controls, with a flexible dealer-by-dealer risk-based approach.

In choosing a solution with self‐audit capability, V12 Vehicle Finance has identified a list of key requirements; the ability to provide increased asset visibility, to be simple to use, and most importantly, the ability to deliver a more efficient and augmented process to mitigate and manage risk on wholesale-funded vehicle stock. SOAR_inventory ticked all of V12 Vehicle Finance’s boxes and more, revolutionising the way their stock audits will be conducted.

Speaking about the product, CEO of LUMINOSITY, Sharon Kavanagh-Banks, said: “SOAR_inventory
has been developed entirely in‐house, based on our own experiences of working in the auto industry with OEMs, dealers and funders over the past three decades. We have been in the field, conducted audits, know the pitfalls, time lost and the pain of reconciling issues or missing assets. Technology was the answer and the arrival of NFC (near field communication), at the core of tap and pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay, provided the key to SOAR’s success.”

“SOAR delivers the ability to self‐audit stock. Using only Smartphone, NFC Tags and the SOAR App, dealers can now stock check their own inventory, with no compromise of accuracy, security or data integrity. In tandem with augmented asset control, SOAR efficiencies enable V12 Vehicle Finance to deliver greater levels of dealer support and quicker resolution of any asset issues.”

V12 Vehicle Finance is looking to grow market share and expand their wholesale stock funding facilities to dealers throughout the UK, which is achievable because SOAR profoundly reduces the cost to scale. Historically, increased volumes had thresholds where additional auditor(s) needed to be recruited. Scaling costs with SOAR_inventory essentially only means an additional tag per unit plus NFC smartphone per location.

David Mercer, Managing Director of V12 Vehicle Finance, commented: “V12 Vehicle Finance is a technology-driven vehicle finance business looking to utilise the best digital solutions on offer, woven together to make the dealer and end customer journeys as easy as possible. SOAR_inventory complements our philosophy perfectly and has proved very easy to set-up and make operational, which speaks well of the design, which is key to achieving rapid adoption. We are delighted to be able to take our new stock funding product to market with this solution embedded in the design from day one.”

As Sharon Kavanagh-Banks explains: “In a sector regarded as being conservative by nature, the V12 Vehicle Finance decision to choose SOAR along with our other high‐profile clients continues to strengthen the case for self‐auditing as a ‘must have’ tool within risk and asset management function. The door for SOAR has well and truly been opened, with further product and client announcements expected in the coming months”.

ENDS…

LUMINOSITY. the company behind SOAR (Standard of Asset Management) is wholly Irish-owned and operated from its base in Dublin. It brings together a wealth of expertise and experience of over three decades of combined experience in the automotive industry to fill gaps, augment processes and deliver efficiencies.

<![CDATA[ Dolly launches the Street Food Trolley Challenge for ages 12 to 112 Dolly, Its MasterChef meets ScrapHeap Challenge ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/dolly-launches-the-street-food-trolley-challenge-for-ages-12-to-112-dolly-its-masterchef-meets-scrapheap-challenge-d2cd6521c26278ab495c0040004da969 https://pressat.co.uk/releases/dolly-launches-the-street-food-trolley-challenge-for-ages-12-to-112-dolly-its-masterchef-meets-scrapheap-challenge-d2cd6521c26278ab495c0040004da969 Wednesday 24 July, 2019

Overton, Hampshire (July 23, 2019) The world’s smallest, most versatile food truck is challenging the UK to come up with a street food vehicle that’s even smaller – based on the familiar shopping trolley.

Described as ‘MasterChef meets Scrapheap Challenge’, the challenge encourages foodies with ideas to repurpose a shopping trolley into a mobile food operation offering food and/or drink made and served from the trolley itself.

“There are three things Dolly is particularly obsessed with,” Dolly's Creative Director, Andrew Mellon, says, “Fantastic food – that always comes first; recycling and refurbishment – she’s a great example of this herself; and trolleys! She has a pair of retro Monarch Airline trolleys that are perfect for so many uses, especially holding her gin. So this competition is something very close to her heart.”

The competition officially opened on July 17th with competitors invited to register at www.dollydoes.com/trolleychallenge.

Anyone in the UK from the age of 12 and above is eligible to take part, but must register and complete the first part of the challenge by August 6th.

In Round One of the challenge, competitors will create a design using the plans of the trolley – received upon registration – as a guide. The design should take into account that the trolley should be able to function as a street food operation, serving any kind of food or drink on the trolley itself. Food hygiene is also something competitors will need to consider.

A group of expert judges will select their favourite, most viable and interesting designs to go forward to round two where each competitor will receive a refurbished supermarket trolley to develop.

–more–

Mellon says, “We are delighted to be supported by Formbar who have offered Dolly a batch of reconditioned shopping trolleys for The Street Food Trolley Challenge. Refurbishment is something that is important to both Formbar and Dolly. Dolly herself is the ultimate refurbishment – and as ‘the car with a conscience’ she always like to reuse, repurpose and recycle wherever possible.”

Five finalists will be chosen to run their street food operation from an exclusive foodie event in London in September where the winner will be found.

The prize package will include a trip to Sweden to attend the European Street Food Awards to see Europe’s best in action £500 cash – and could be the start of a whole new career!

“As the world’s smallest, most versatile food truck and bar, Dolly knows how versatile a small vehicle can be” says Mellon, “She continues to expand her repertoire and this summer has launched her Eco Station, educating the public on becoming plastic free with her pop-up eco refill shop – and she has just become the UK’s first mobile, chilled mineral water refill station.”

About Dolly

Based in the village of Overton in Hampshire, Dolly is a 1986 Dolly model 2CV.

In 2018, the 70th anniversary year of the 2CV, she was transformed into a state-of-the-art food truck and concept bar with the help of 50 British brands, earning her the title ‘the built-in-Britain 2CV’.

Her transformation saw her outfitted as a fully working, retractable kitchen, with a series of exchangeable units that allow her to provide a range of food and drink experiences. For extra versatility, her doors and wings even come off, which allow her to slip through a double door.

Launched on 15 May, 2018 – flown in to Bicester by helicopter – she headlined soon after at the London Motor Show.

She has since gone on to take part in the British Street Food Awards, the Portsmouth Seafood Festival, London Food Tech Week and recently served 100 VIPs at L’Etape Tour de France.

Dolly and her private chef are now available to hire for private events. Find out more at https://www.dollydoes.com and @DollyDoesItAll on Twitter.

<![CDATA[ The sun shines for the children at legendary LTCFC outing to Southend-on-Sea ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/the-sun-shines-for-the-children-at-legendary-ltcfc-outing-to-southend-on-sea-3e401c9116ac296ffa5471ac52e04fe0 https://pressat.co.uk/releases/the-sun-shines-for-the-children-at-legendary-ltcfc-outing-to-southend-on-sea-3e401c9116ac296ffa5471ac52e04fe0 Friday 28 June, 2019

On Tuesday 25 June 2019, the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children welcomed volunteer London licensed taxi drivers and 200+ special needs and disadvantaged children to Sainsbury’s (Low Hall) car park in Chingford, where their legendary outing to Southend-on-Sea was about to commence.

As the children arrived, they were greeted by Marco the Clown who certainly put a smile on their faces.

Each driver was given £20 to put towards their fuel. £10 of this was kindly donated to each driver by Shell Stations UK.

Once the volunteer drivers were fed and their taxis decorated, the children and their helpers were allocated their places and the convoy set off for Southend-on-sea. As luck would have it, the rain stopped and the sun came out for the rest of the day!

On arrival at Southend, the children were treated to lunch and then it was off to Adventure Island, chaperoned by the volunteer taxi drivers, to enjoy the amazing rides and attractions. Each child was given a tasty treat voucher. There were lots of bags of Candy Floss being enjoyed during the afternoon.

At 4pm coaches arrived to take the very excited and happy children back to the Cliffs Pavilion for some tea which consisted of healthy sandwiches kindly provided by Shell from the Jamie Oliver Deli by Shell range. Buxton Water kept the children hydrated during the day by supplying bottles of water for each child, along with their helpers and the volunteer taxi drivers.

The children were now fed and ready for the disco! Compere Dave Davies got the children up on their feet before Action Amanda and the Furry Tail Folk entertained the children. They all had a good boogie.

Meanwhile, on the floor, Tracy Wise was entertaining the children with Edwardo and Merlin, both up to their usual tricks performing magic for the children and their families. Barry Harvey, the puppeteer was also working the floor, making the children laugh.

Time for the Best Dressed Taxi competition, the winner picked by Laurence Mutkin, Upper Warden from The Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers, Alias Wire Workers. The first prize went to Niki Hunter for his marvel(lous) Incredible Hulk taxi. Niki received £150 in cash.

Alexa Hicks came second and won a trophy for her beautifully dressed taxi. The raffle was won by Nick Mayes who won afternoon tea for two at a prestigious London hotel.

The disco ended at 6pm and the children and their helpers returned to their taxis for departure back to Chingford.

Michael Son, BEM, LTCFC Chairman commented “Our Southend outing was a huge success. The taxis looked amazing with our new branding on and the sight of the convoy travelling to Southend was really something special.

“Huge thanks to everyone who gives up their precious time for the day, especially our volunteer taxi drivers.

“It is a humbling sight to watch the determined children go on all the rides and they are truly inspiring.

“I must also thank our sponsors and committee members for the time and effort that is put into organising Southend each year. It is a privilege to help these fantastic children who are so appreciative of this wonderful day."

<![CDATA[ Disruptive impact of “new mobility” makes for a bumpy road ahead as the auto industry prepares for the future ]]> https://pressat.co.uk/releases/disruptive-impact-of-new-mobility-makes-for-a-bumpy-road-ahead-as-the-auto-industry-prepares-for-the-future-1f666001aeae762536a36dc30a6ed886 https://pressat.co.uk/releases/disruptive-impact-of-new-mobility-makes-for-a-bumpy-road-ahead-as-the-auto-industry-prepares-for-the-future-1f666001aeae762536a36dc30a6ed886 Wednesday 26 June, 2019

Electrification and the “Death of Diesel” sees heavy spending on new mobility, but slowing sales and shrinking profits leads to bumpy road ahead, says AlixPartners study

The report highlights some of the challenges the industry faces going forwards:

• Automakers could incur a $60-billion pre-tax profit hit through 2023

• 86% of Chinese consumers and 59% of UK consumers polled say internal-combustion engines should be banned or further regulated

• Suppliers could see margins drop by as much as 40%, as vehicle electrification reduces the value of components by 85%

• Dealers to face 20% margin declines and a $1,300 per-vehicle drop in service-and-parts revenue

• 140 powertrain plants, or around 40% of the worldwide total, could be in need of restructuring or closure

London (June 26 2019) – The automotive industry faces a significant profit drain as it contends with massive spending on new-mobility programs, starting with electric vehicles (EV), and stagnation in key markets globally. Consumers surveyed in seven bellwether auto markets—China, Germany, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and California (surveyed separately)—say they generally not only feel positive about EVs but large numbers, including 86% of Chinese consumers, 59% of consumers in the UK, and 50% of consumers in the United States, say internal-combustion-engine (ICE) vehicles should be banned or further regulated.

Automakers could incur a $60-billion pre-tax hit to their profits through 2023, and suppliers could see their profit margins drop by up to 40% by 2021. Additionally, dealers are predicted to see 20% margin declines, including $1,300 less revenue per vehicle in service and parts due to vehicle-electrification alone.

The AlixPartners annual study, now in its 16th year, projects that industry spending earmarked for electrification has grown 25% over the past year and will reach $297 billion by 2023. The amount targeted for autonomous-vehicle (AV) technologies through that same period is now up to $75 billion. One significant result of this revolution under the bonnet: As many as 140 powertrain plants, or around 40% of the worldwide total, could be “in play” (i.e. in need of restructuring or closure), according to the report.

In addition, the study forecasts that maintaining dual ICE and EV powertrains could cost automakers on average $2.3 billion per year per vehicle platform—a sobering prospect, as most automakers are currently confronted with no other option. This is coupled with the aftereffects of dieselgate, with Europe’s diesel share falling from 52% in 2015 to 36% in 2018. Diesel’s share of the market is predicted to fall as low as 10% in countries such as the UK and France by 2030, while EVs will make up over 40% of these respective markets. This also helps explain why 25% in the UK say their next vehicle is likely to be an EV.

Regarding suppliers, the study finds that mass vehicle electrification in the auto industry will reduce the value of traditional auto suppliers’ components by 85%. The average number of powertrain components could drop from 1,500 for today’s ICE powertrains to just 230 for EV ones, contributing to the forecasted 40% drop in pre-tax margins by 2021.

On the retail front, the study finds that dealers stand to see $1,300 per vehicle in service-and-parts revenue totally evaporate due to vehicle electrification alone, as an estimated 35% of scheduled maintenance for today’s vehicles will become moot with EVs. Overall, says the study, dealers are facing as much as 20% revenue and 20% gross-margin declines due to the industry’s switch-over to new mobility—and that to maintain profitability, dealers should both examine their current cost structures critically and look for new pools of revenue sources.

Overall, the study forecasts that the global auto market will grow at an annual rate of just 1.6% through to 2026, and that this year sales in the all-important China market will fall dramatically, to 24.8 million units (from 27 million in 2018). The UK market is forecast to only have a slight decline, falling to 2.7 million units (vs. 2.9 million last year), before returning to a likely 2.9 million in 2023.

Among the other findings in the study:

• The European market is forecast to be 20.4 million units this year, down from 20.6 million in 2018, with electric vehicles predicted to capture at least 40% of that market by 2030, largely due to strict government regulations of CO2 coupled with the aftereffects of the “Dieselgate” scandal earlier this decade. Meanwhile, sales in Western Europe are forecast to shrink 0.5% per year through to 2026.

• Breakeven points—the point at which revenues catch up with costs—have risen dramatically in recent years for both European and American automakers. For the biggest automakers in the US the average breakeven point is up 18% this decade, and for the biggest four European companies the average is up 22%. One reason breakeven points are up: automakers have added 400,000 jobs since the Great Recession period, the study finds.

• Nearly half (48%) of ICE-powertrain suppliers are continuing to invest in ICE projects or otherwise remaining status quo vis-à-vis making moves (such as investment or divestments) toward new mobility—a strategy that the study calls “risky.”

• On the M&A front, though slightly down from 2017 both volume and value of automotive deals remained relatively high last year, at c.140 deals and $38 billion, respectively. Importantly, the portion of those deals tied to new mobility also remained high: 55% of the deals last year, worth $21 billion (vs. 50% and $25 billion, respectively, in 2017). Meanwhile, private-equity deals in automotive also remained relatively steady, albeit with smaller transactions, with 54 deals worth $8.6 billion undertaken last year (vs. 92 deals worth $14.7 billion the year before).

Andrew Bergbaum, AlixPartners’ automotive leader and a Managing Director at the firm said:

“This industry needs to brace for some sizeable bumps ahead, profit wise, as the necessary spending on new mobility ramps up just as key markets around the world continue to cool. It is the perfect storm and those that emerge successfully from this will be determined by the action they take in the next few months, not years. We are at a pivotal moment in the automotive industry’s evolution and this is not a time for small tweaks. Success and long-term future relevance require bold decisions and significant investments to underpin dramatic transformations of operations and in many cases entire business models.”

Nick Parker, a Director in AlixPartners’ automotive practice added:

“Whether you’re a manufacturer, supplier, dealer, rental-car company, finance provider or even a tech company, the future is going to be littered with those who either make the wrong bets or who don’t take suitably decisive action to ensure their bets pay off. By far the biggest disruption in this industry’s history is around the corner and being prepared for it will be a lot tougher than many thought even just six or eight months ago. However, this has never been an industry for the faint-hearted, and with bold strategies coupled to a strong focus on end results, today’s leading players can accomplish great things over the next few years, just as this industry’s founders did over a century ago.”

About the Study

The study, The AlixPartners Global Automotive Outlook, was based on months-long analysis of data from both public and proprietary sources, and included an online survey of consumers age 18 and older possessing driver’s licenses conducted May 1-28, 2019, in Greater China (1,108 respondents), Germany (1,008), Japan (1,033), Norway (1,031), the United Kingdom (1,030), the United States (2,385), and California (surveyed separately, 1,019).

On Thursday 6 June 2019, Katie Simmonds who runs the Russell Square cabmen’s Shelter will be holding her annual fundraiser to help raise money for the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children (LTCFC).

It was in this actual cabmen’s Shelter that the LTCFC began back in 1928. It was originally located in Leicester Square, before being moved to Russell Square where it now proudly stands.

All food and drinks served on the day can be purchased by way of donation and there will be some great raffle prizes up for grabs.

There will be vintage taxis on display at the cabmen’s shelter and LTCFC committee members will be helping Katie Simmonds raise awareness and more importantly, fundraising for this wonderful cause.

The LTCFC are kindly being assisted by a team of volunteer licensed London taxi drivers who will be fundraising on the day by collecting donations and donating their tips for the day.

At last year’s fundraiser Gary Oldman popped by for a photograph!

What are the LTCFC fundraising for?

The LTCFC are raising money for their 2019 Southend-on-Sea outing, when they take over 250 special needs and disadvantaged children to the seaside for the day.

For many of the children it will be the first time they have been in a London taxi, seen the sea and all the rides in Adventure Island.

If you would like to help and you are in the Russell Square area on Thursday 6 June, please pop by the cabmen’s shelter, grab a coffee, cake or bite to eat and this will help a very worthy cause.

If you would like to find out more about the LTCFC and the fantastic work they do to help special needs and disadvantaged children, please visit ltcfc.org.uk.

About the Cabmen’s Shelter Fund

The Cabmen’s Shelter Fund was established in 1875 to run shelters for the drivers of hansom cabs and later hackney carriages.

Between 1875 and 1914, 61 cabmen’s shelters were constructed. Today, only a few working shelters remain, they are all Grade II listed buildings and they are all still run by the Cabmen’s Shelter Fund.

Katie Simmonds has run the cabmen’s shelter at Russell Square for the last 5 years.

About the Ayrton Senna Institute

For more than 20 years, the Ayrton Senna Institute has contributed to increase opportunities for children and young people through education. Our mission is to develop the human being as a whole, preparing them to life in the 21st century in all its dimensions. Driven by the wishes of three-time F1 champion Ayrton Senna to build a better Brazil, we work in partnership with public officials, teachers, researchers and other institutions to create evidence-based policies and educational practices. We believe in permanent innovation and constant investigation of new breakthroughs in order to answer the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Starting with the main challenges identified by the managers and teachers with whom we work on a daily basis, we create, organize and validate the necessary knowledge to the advancement of quality in education, in a joint effort with the public education networks. All the knowledge we create is shared with other actors through initiatives aimed at qualification, diffusion, technical collaboration and the transfer of technology.

Our actions are funded through donations, licensing fees and partnerships with the private sector. Taking into account initiatives geared towards both Elementary and High School students, we are present in 16 states and approximately 600 cities, supporting the qualification of around 45 thousand professionals every year and helping the education of more than 1.5 million students annually.

New app assesses the road ahead in real-time and warns drivers of potential accident hotspots
Combines critical data from over 1.3 million accidents with a powerful AI machine-learning algorithm to calculate a risk score and provide appropriate audible and visual warnings
Easy-to-use app available now on the iOS AppStore and Android Play Store.

LONDON, UK, May 15, 2019 – Wouldn’t it be great to see potential road accidents before they happen? Fortunately, a UK company has developed an app that can do exactly that, using data provided by the police to accurately warn drivers of every accident hotspot in the UK.

Based on information from 1.3 million accidents over the past 10 years, the Safescape app knows the severity of every accident and its exact time and date. Using its powerful AI, it will continuously analyse various factors in real-time and, combined with this data, calculate a risk score of the approaching location, warning drivers appropriately so that they are aware and prepared.

“There are around 3,500 ‘safety’ cameras on the roads today, but we know most of the 238,000 accidents occurring annually don’t even happen at these locations,” said Stuart Petersen, VP of Distribution & Partnerships at Safescape Intelligent Systems, the company behind the app. “You only have to look at the meteoric rise in dashcams to realise people want to feel safe in their cars. Safescape arms drivers with the best knowledge to adjust their speed accordingly, intensify their focus and hopefully stay out of harm’s way.”

The Safescape user interface has been deliberately designed to be simple to use and convey crucial information quickly and without fuss. It uses audible alerts and a visual indicator based on familiar traffic light colours to effectively reflect the severity of the approaching risks.

"Our data API is also able to integrate with third party and OEM offerings like Navigation, Driver Assist and Telematics systems, and adds an excellent additional and critical layer of safety and “eyes” for their customers," commented Alex Luketa, Safescape's VP of Engineering. "We believe in the benefits of this technology and feel sure it will contribute to making our roads safer throughout the UK and eventually the rest of the world. Safescape will be a critical & complimentary safety partner to new systems like ISA (Intelligent Speed Assistance), Autonomous Emergency Braking and Electronic Lane Keeping "

Safescape is available now on the Apple and Android platform on the iOS AppStore and Android Play Store, or for more information visit https://safescape.co/
